Over 13,000 homes in Deschutes County are second homes or vacation homes. If we want to prioritize the people who live and work in Deschutes County, it's high time we started charging the owners of these vacant properties and put those funds towards more affordable housing.

The situation in Central Oregon is worsening. Bend alone needs 15,700 more homes in 8 years to keep up, and the way it currently stands, I do not see that ever happening. Until we make a fundamental shift in, it will continue to worsen.
