The discovery of Sivulliusalmo alaskensis — the genus is named from the Inupiaq and Latin words for “to be first” and “salmon,” respectively — adds another 20 million years to the fossil history of the salmon family.

"Effective today, sources tell Science, NSF’s division of grants & awards is returning all grant proposals previously approved for funding and awaiting final signoff to program officers who oversaw the initial review. In the meantime, according to those sources, NSF will not make any new awards."

Despite all of the chaos in the US, I’m excited to be in the phase where my lab is starting to crank out super cool results - too many to fit into a single seminar! I have to pick and choose what story to tell out of multiple interesting stories! The years of hard work are starting to pay off. 🙌🏼🧬🐟

It’s devastating to see the number of GRFP awards cut in half. These are already so competitive to get. My heart goes out to my students and all the others that put their hearts into their applications and deserved this award.
