Just wildly wonderful playoff baseball. Excruciating in the best way.
I still reference paying with “the code” with some regularity.
Happy birthday to all the dads out there!

Weird & Wild: The 3-run walk, a bizarre strikeout and the baseball gods bless Manny Machado
Some of the strangest things you'll see on a baseball field happened this week. Here's how it all looked through the broadcasters' eyes.

Love a good Preller Alarm
FanFest is great for a million reasons, but spending an hour watching Jackson Merrill interact with and sign autographs for kids is about as good as it gets.
Nope. Most of the seven don’t. Just hit, bb, hbp.
I’ve half-joked for years that yellow shoes and gloves should be illegal in football. Can be very easy to see a quick moving hand or foot and think it’s a flag, especially from some of the lesser broadcast vantage points 🤷‍♂️
With the new shift violation penalty, we get to update the old trivia question about the seven ways for a batter to reach base, right?? Eight is the new seven.
Preview of the Connections:
Please pass along to your friends/family who may enjoy. Is and will always be free to subscribe. Not gonna bother posting it on Twitter 🤷‍♂️
New newsletter tomorrow, btw. More on Profar and what feels particularly relevant to this audience, I created a Padres “Connections” game.
The 2024 Pads had an almost laughable number of incredible moments and Jurickson Profar was in the middle of nearly all of them. Should get quite an ovation on Opening Day at Petco.
Wow!
Cool trivia from the @baseballhall.org: Ichiro becomes the 3rd Hall of Famer to have played in both MLB and Nippon Professional Baseball. The others? Larry Doby with the Chunichi Dragons in 1962 and Goose Gossage for the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks in 1990.
I try and generally avoid HoF arguments and discourse but this class is so cool in so many ways and as a fan, what three totally different and totally awesome representations of the game. Congrats to all.
Not only a legendary broadcaster and entertainer and one of the funniest people ever, but hard to argue that he doesn’t have the best play-by-play “coaching tree” in MLB history. Will miss seeing him in Milwaukee but what a crew they have to follow in his footsteps.
Bob Uecker, an MLB catcher who turned his tales of inferiority into a second career as a popular sportscaster, died on Thursday at 90. nyti.ms/4jnpX9N
Hey man this was just absolutely exceptional. No outside force shaped my sense of humor and personality like Dave did (you and I are the same age) and you basically asked everything I’ve always wished I had the chance to ask him. Thanks for your wonderful work.
