Just before this photo, this Red-Shouldered Hawk crashed onto the trail right in front of us in pursuit of… something. Alas, they did not catch whatever they were after and flew back into the trees. The entire time I just stood unmoving like 😳😍. #redshoulderedhawk #hawk #birdphotography #raptor

HB Central Park is such a special place to me. Currently it’s making the news for an awful MAGA plague they want to put on the beautiful library (my respect to @chriswarcraft.bsky.social for protesting that), as well as putting in a light show that would be catastrophic to wildlife.

Bolsa Chica. Had a thing in HB and let myself stop by Bolsa for a very brief time. I had so many amazing opportunities with that young harrier. None of the photos are good. It could simply be that it was windy and I was having trouble holding the camera still. Or it was the fall. Or both.

Saw a bird I like very much. Got excited said bird was flying so close to me. Wasn’t watching where I was walking. Tripped. Fell. Skinned my knees. And maybe hurt my camera. I can’t have nice things. Or knees. I know the Harrier was laughing at me. I could feel it. 😂😭

They do need water! Some prefer to drink from misted droplets and others will drink straight from a little water bowl! It’s adorable.
