It’s Halloween season and on tonight’s #ypareviews podcast hosted by film critic Mike Crowley, we’re talking unconventional horror films. (The three shown here to be exact. Can you name them?) Horror expert/film critic Mark Krawczyk and I guest, so tune in at 7 PM tonight on YouTube. 🎃👻💀🎃🧛🏻‍♀️
Won’t you join us? It will be so much fun, it’s scary! 👻
What's scarier than a horror movie? Movies about real life. With a dash of vampires in a flick that humiliates Twilight. @specialmarkprod.bsky.social @jeffyorkwriter.bsky.social and I dive into what makes these movies shake our cores. #horror #Halloween2025

I saw #BUGONIA at the #ChicagoFilmFest last week and it’s one of my favorite films of the year. It stars Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis and opens this Friday. My review and caricature are up now at TheEstablishingShot.org.

It’s beyond pathetic. The mainstream media, on the whole, is comprised of feckless cowards and shameless hypocrites.
I count myself amongst Rose Byrne's biggest fans, and she gives a bold, unflinching performance in IF I HAD LEGS I’D KICK YOU. However, I did not like the film. I explain why at TheEstablishingShot.org. bit.ly/3Wepexm
#FRANZ, the new Franz Kafka biopic from filmmaker Agnieszka Holland, had its Midwest premiere at the Chicago International Film Festival this past weekend and it’s easy to see why. It’s an exceptional film, albeit an unusual one. My review explains more at TheEstablishingShot.org.
I will! Where shall we meet? Right outside the theater?
It’s Saturday at the #ChicagoInternationalFilmFestival and I’m seeing two movies today: #franz, about the famed author Franz Kafka (Germany), and #wakeupdeadman, the latest Knives Out mystery (USA). My reviews of what I’ve seen so far will be coming soon.
It’s Thursday night at the #ChicagoInternationalFilmFestival and I have a big date with Rose Byrne. (I wish!) Actually, I’m just seeing her new movie premiere here at the AMC NewCity. Yours truly has his press pass on and is excited to see #IfIHadLegsIdKickYou.

AOC: The problem is that the Trump administration, they think that destroying our health care, making sure that housing is too expensive to live in, that jacking up the cost of our groceries—they think all of this is about hurting Democrats. What they are doing is hurting Americans

Q: “Most hospitals + people who will lose insurance are in rural areas. If Trump & Republicans are so intent on sticking it to their own voters, why not let them?”

@aoc.bsky.social : “That’s the difference between us & Trump. I don’t care if you voted for me, I want you to have health care.”
Even with significant changes from Mary Shelley’s original novel and various excesses, Guillermo del Toro’s take on #FRANKENSTEIN is still a vivid, worthwhile production. It opens this Friday and is part of the Chicago International Film Festival too. My review is up now at TheEstablishingShot.org.
The 61st #ChicagoInternationalFilmFestival has begun and both #BUGONIA and #FRANKENSTEIN were audacious movies I saw yesterday at the AMC New City. The festival continues until the 26th so get your tix now. (Reviews will be coming soon!) #ciff #chicagoindiecritics
#RIPDianeKeaton
The world has lost one of its best and brightest with the passing of this legendary actress. I wrote a tribute to Keaton when she was named the recipient of the AFI Life Achievement award in 2016 and it seems like a good time to repost it here. bit.ly/3Wzc0ew
DIANE KEATON IS NAMED THE 45th RECIPIENT OF THE AFI LIFE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Today, Diane Keaton was named as the 45th recipient of the American Film Institute Life Achievement Award. Sir Howard Stringer, chair of the AFI Board of Trustees, heralded her with the following word...

#GoodBoy is perhaps the most unique horror film this year. The new frightener from filmmaker Ben Leonberg tells a haunted house tale via the perspective of a man’s pet pooch. The movie opens this weekend but my review is up now at TheEstablishingShot.org
