Risk factor analysis and creation of an externally-validated prediction model for perioperative stroke following non-cardiac surgery: A multi-center retrospective and modeling study - PubMed
In this work, we identified 13 independent risk factors for perioperative stroke and constructed an effective prediction model with well-supported external validation in Chinese patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery. The model may provide potential intervention targets and help to screen high-risk …

For #AnSky #anesthesiologist

What is the biggest difference between community and academic anesthesia/surgery/perioperative medicine?

I find it to be the resources invested in collecting and analyzing preoperative information (in favor of academics).

Thoughts?

Do #Anesthesiologist have a stereotype? "Sudoku playing, in-and-out, case canceling, non-doctors"...should I go on?

We are:
Emergency experts
Perioperative specialists
Patient safety advocates
Hospital leaders

Our scope is enormous.

Why does it feel that we fight for respect?

IMO: These guidelines are difficult to operationalize.
- Too many variables to control
- Gastric US not widely practiced
- High probability for delays/cancellations

Unpopular opinion 🫥

#Anesthesia journals give too much focus to regional anesthesia. 💉

Preoperative medicine and optimizing patients globally should be our focus. ⚕️

Why do we allow people to have surgery when they're not ready?
- Physically
- Emotionally
- Spiritually
- Socially

When teaching #anesthesia residents, what's your best advice?

Scan the dashboard. Circulating, ventilating, and oxygenating?
If not, stop what you're doing. If yes, do the next thing.
Don't get task saturated. Control the room. Control the variables you can control. #ansky

For clarification: preop cardiology consultation is not asking for clearance and is not requesting an H&P.

We are asking for recent cardiac testing (Cath, ECHO, EKG), cardiac biomarkers, assessment of their ischemic risk, and evaluation of their valves and ventricular function. #ansky #cardiosky
