C of E churches are owned by the benefice.
The trustee is the vicar/rector/incumbent for the time being.
When she leaves, sequestrators are the trustees.
The parochial church council (elected by church members) is responsible for insurance, maintenance, etc.
Changes are approved by the diocese.
Redundant CofE churches are sold or given away.
Some are taken on by other charities.
Some are converted to another use eg residential.
Some are demolished and apartments/shops/offices built.

Graveyards can be tricky.

I would want to know when those European countries set up their schemes for "church precepts" and if any European country has successfully introduced a brand-new one in the 21st century. But Jenkins instead just acts like it's the Church's fault this system hasn't been introduced.
Safe from hurricanes?

A purported ally threatening diplomats and their families with personal consequences if they maintain the positions they’ve been instructed to take is very deeply shocking, extremely hostile, and undermines the norms by which non-violent resolution of international disagreements are possible.
Yes!
Same for dates but make sure required format is specified.

3/11/2025 or 11/3/2025 or 031050 Z or 20251103.
On our lines, we haven’t had people sitting in the back cab pressing buttons to open and close the doors for many decades.
We do have railway staff passing through trains checking tickets.
More of them, fewer guards.
And CCTV in all cars with live feed to control rooms.

Well-meaning Americans in my mentions: kindly do not recommend extremely illegal actions that could land people in the UK with a ten year prison sentence
AI tells me The Betting and Gaming Act 1960 abolished the requirement.
But having read the Act I can’t see any reference to this.
Yes there is a lot of housing and office development nearby. It’s a very useful station. We have friends who live north of Aix and it’s great for trips from London.
Would be even better if there was a tramway from Marignan to Aix via the station.
Stream crossing: "Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light."

B of A’s coverage of AI-related debt has been notable this week:

1) “Borrowing to fund AI datacenter spending exploded in September and so far in October”

2) “Companies may be reaching a limit on how much capex they can fun purely from cash flows”

Aix TGV is nowhere near Aix. There is a good shuttle bus costing €5 that takes 20 or so minutes normalement.
But there is a direct bus or train from Marseille to Aix that would be quicker and cheaper.
(Same for Marignane.)

If the Labour party apparatchiks replace their leader there will be calls for an immediate general election.

Though it is not required, it will leave the country with a government without a popular mandate.

And Labour made much of this argument about May/Johnson, Truss/Sunak.
Possible scenario. People used their phones to call the police. The police called York control. York control informed train crew and changed routing.
Huntingdon first possible stop.

Everyone is connected now.

I understand Armed Response was waiting on the platform when it arrived. The whole thing looks to have been handled with the utmost professionalism. We only tend to hear about organisation when it goes wrong, but I hope there's recognition of how well handled it was here.

The crew have to make the driver aware, the driver confirm a plan with the signallers, we know the emergency response was being organised too...

The time lost is almost all braking (first to transfer to the slow line, then stop at the station).

Astounding work that almost certainly saved lives.

Whatever else comes out once the attack on the ECML train last night, this alone is a credit to the train crew, driver, and signalling team.

Huntingdon was the first possible stop. In a highly stressful situation and improvising a plan the train lost just 3 minutes vs line speed to get there.
Meanwhile, the police, on Home Office orders, arrest hundreds of people for holding up placards condemning the Labour party’s support of genocide.
Of course, there are.

In my experience, politicians are very much like human beings: good and bad, principled and unprincipled, rogues and saints.
I agree England differs from America.
I try (but don’t always succeed) to avoid commenting on foreign politics.
I was thinking of Starmer and Farage.
The Guardian quotation triggered the thought.
“The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.”
Refuse to pay?
“That’s a nice face you have there, shame if it had an accident. “
The issue is that they are misleading the public.
If you have to increase prices by 15%, increase prices by 15%.
Don’t advertise one price and charge another.
