Fountain pen of the day (vintage):

An oddity, the Parker 180, from 1979. This is a special edition, the Gold Ecorcé. This strange nib is specially designed to write in both sides, as a medium and as a fine. It does! And is very smooth both ways.

From past year, one of Hongdian’s year of the dragon models, the A24 this is a piston converter in resin covered brass. It was a variant of their N24, in wood, that cracked easily, so I decided for this very nice version. The nib is beautiful and smooth.

My last purchase, that I’m a little conflicted about. The Ranga Majestic model. I wanted a classic Duofold style, and thought that a classic ebonite pen would do. I received it, but it’s really a big red pen, 180 mm long! It’s lightweight and works well, but…

The most Canadian pen ever seen, even if it’s Chinese, the Hongdian N8, a converter pen in brass, with maple leaf designs. It’s quite nice and solid, with smooth lines.

A fancy one, this is an Omas Ogiva Cocktail (Bloody Mary). A demonstrator in purple, with a very nice 18k gold medium nib. It’s a reliable and smooth writer.

A very pink and shimmery pen, this is a Taiwanese PENLUX Concerto, the Rose Nebula. This has a wet and smooth Jowo nib. It’s funny, but although it looks like a very ladylike pen, I don’t refuse a nice pen. It even came with its own pink ink. And I like pink.

From between 1926 and 1934, this is a Sheaffer Flat top, their first model in Celluloid (called Radite). A very nice pen with good weight and a superb 14k gold Lifetime nib. The pen uses a lever filling mechanism.

A classic model from a less known German brand (less than Kaweko, Lamy or Montblanc, that’s it). The Diplomat Aero, in Stripes Black. It’s an interesting design in aluminum, with a solid and smooth nib.

A Hongdian 1845 brass fountain pen, chromium plated. It’s a heavy model, with good quality and nib. Better than the current models of well established brands, but not the best from this Chinese manufacturer…

From Ferris Wheel Press, this is a curious design, the Bijou in Capitain Earl Grayson. This model has a very simple model, leaving all the detail to the grip section and the nib. It’s comfortable to use and with a good quality nib.

From Hongdian, this is one of my favorite models from the brand. The N6 in black metal with a red cap ring. It’s a shorter piston filler with a long blade nib, that gives naturally line variation. Very good quality and feeling, with an original design.

From Nahvalur, a classic design, the Bautilus. This is a red and black ebonite pen, the Stylophora Berry. An original design, with a piston filler system and 3 ink windows. My only peeve is that it doesn’t posts, but is comfortable enough. Has a good medium nib.

From Taiwan, this is a Laban, the Rosa Blue Marble edition. It’s a nice blue cracked acrylic, with a fine, smooth steel nib. The pen is very comfortable. It’s a little expensive for the materials. More than double the price of an Asvine P20, but it’s a good quality pen.

One of my oldest pens, this is a Parker Duofold junior, the jade pearl, from 1931. The body and filling system were as good as new, even if it has no nib. The seller replaced it with a 1936 Parker Vacumatic. It holds a good amount of ink, and the nib is smooth.

From India, this is a more known brand, but not as fancy as Magna Carta (I can’t get one) or Ranga (I got plenty from them), this is a Kanwrite Legacy in dark solid blue. It feels a little cheap with thin resin, and comes with a very thin flex nib and a medium. It’s good.

An exotic one, at least from Mexico, this is a Turkish pen, the Kilk Epigram. It’s a nice resin pen in blue and white swirls and a silver ring with the legend “Vincit Omnia Veritas” (Latin for truth conquers all) very smooth writer and an original design.

A more modern take from Pilot economy line, the Pilot Explorer, in silver. It is a plastic pen, with the same nib as the Metropolitan. This is a lightweight and reliable model, and I suspect that the metallic box is more expensive than the pen. Anyway, cool design.

A very nice design by Hongdian, the 660, in ebony. This wooden pen feels great and has a good nib and design. I like how Chinese manufacturers use different materials for their models. It’s an smooth writer.

From Hongdian, this is a not so hot looking model (even in a hot pink color), this is the N10, a piston filler pen, with an ebonite feed and a smooth number six steel nib. This is a great quality model and although I don’t like much the pattern, de design is quite good.
