This piece makes a great deal of sense to me. I grew up swimming competitively and my main “rival” was a girl. I think competing with her everyday at practice shaped how I interact with women.
"the issue isn’t that we need more 'boy-friendly' reforms. It’s that boys are socialized to compete only with boys and to read girls’ success as illegitimate or emasculating. The result is dissonance, resentment, and disengagement for boys—and hostile climates for girls."

We do this with focus groups and it shocks me every time. Recent groups, couldn’t name a single countywide elected official, what government entity was responsible for water and how local taxes are passed.
I’ve been thinking a lot about a new kind of polling I’d like to see. We have polling that measures public opinion, which is obviously important, but I’d love to see a little more empirical work on public knowledge: what do voters know about politics and policy?

Pleasantly surprised to see legacy media telling the truth much more bluntly, and much sooner, than they did in 2020
Federal officer blasts chemical spray into vocal but nonviolent Portland protester, video shows

The interaction illustrates how federal law enforcement officers do use aggressive tactics against protesters who yell and needle officers but don’t appear to present clear physical threats.
