Out of Dark Waters (and my WIP Oath and Memory) was heavily inspired by tabletop games. It would definitely be a ttrpg! #SffChat
#SFFChat Q2: If your story were a game of some kind, what would it be (e.g RPG, TTRPG, a boardgame of some kind, survival horror, first-person shooter, etc)?

We don't have a hookup for my immersion chiller at our new place, so I found a simpler way to cool my brew down from the boil.

Hello friends, I'm finalizing my 2026 TBR list!
So while I check all I had already, if you have a release in 2026 (SF/Fantasy/Horror/Romantasy), I would love to hear from you.

Been building and prepping these units since early October. Primed and undercoated. Ready to start painting tonight!

(Interceptor Squad and Strike Squad, kitbashed mostly from a GK Squad kit and a couple of MKIII Command Squads)

Lots of leftover bits from the MKIII marines that I used to build GK strikes quads. Tested out putting one of the bolters on a Frostgrave mini. I think I'll paint him as a tzeentchian chaos cultist.

I drilled barrels last night for the two squads I'm working on. Twenty dudes, 40 tiny holes later, their bolter shots can fly free.

Really enjoyable interview! And particularly fun for me to listen to another author inspired by tabletop storytelling talk about their work. #Fantasy #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

"As if your eyes are, indeed, organs of touch."

Interesting video essay, but I thought this was a particularly cool turn of phrase.

I imagine that time keeping in remote or rural areas is only as precise as necessary -- rising with the dawn, coming home with the tide, etc.. In cities and castles, there would probably be more precise communal clocks based on either magical or physical mechanisms. #SffChat
#SFFChat Q3: How is time kept or measured in your world? If time is the same way as for us, how does magic or technology influence it?
November 13, 2025 at 11:56 PM
I usually have a pretty clear idea of the time of day a scene occurs, though it doesn't always make it into the written description. But, oh man, do I love narrating dramatic stuff happening by moonlight. I sometimes have to edit out a glut of moonlight-related descriptions. #SffChat
#SFFChat Q2: When you write, do you tend to have a clear picture of the time of day for particularly intense scenes?
November 13, 2025 at 11:49 PM
Glancingly referenced in Out of Dark Waters: Night time is always high tide, because the moon orbits Thindul directly opposite the sun, and the moon pulls the ocean. (Not because of gravity, of course; the same eldritch god created the ocean and the moon, and the moon calls the ocean home.) #SffChat
#SFFChat Q1: What unique features of day, night, or time exist in your world? OR, how do people in your world think about these concepts (maybe they're sacred, etc)?

My last few interceptors have their heads now! I clipped the spikes off of some HH MKIII helmets. I'm on a quest to give each of the 4 squad variants a visually distinctive build.
