I have never cared much about #formula1 #f1 but you cannot deny its recent inroads into the mainstream. People think and talk about it now. A marketing masterclass! 🏎️

Interesting article here about Deartment of Defence reorganisation. But I want to point out that some of the anger about defence procurement is misplaced. 1/3 www.theage.com.au/politics/fed...
Government to scrap multiple defence agencies to fight massive blowouts
The Albanese government is poised to announce a major overhaul of the Defence Department intended to reduce cost blowouts and delays.

Noah Smith, the blogger noahpinion, used to be genuinely insightful. A great writer. I wonder if covid dropped his IQ a standard deviation, because now I read his stuff and just shake my head.

Mmm. Yep, looking forward to the first day of Melbourne summer. 😬🤡💩☔🌨️. Seriously what a terrible place for a city.

Australia's third-least-favourite burrito chain is starting its US onslaught as far from Mexico as you can pretty much get, in the leafy, suburban parts of Chicago. Which is kinda smart. Still, I give them a few months max.

I have this as the biggest one-month tumble in bitcoin history in $ terms. Down $25,000+. Including $20k of pure freefall in the last two weeks, with no pauses.

If you have your radio tuned to Triple J Hack this afternoon and you hear some guy called Jason Murphy get introduced, and you're wondering - is that the same guy I sometimes see posting on Blue sky? Yes! it's me!
(I won't be listening as the sound of my own voice is impossible not to cringe to.🫣)

Death to the adjective "well-heeled". Rich and poor alike wear Nikes with polymer soles, it's time to find a better word.

Democrats are winning in America when this is the agenda. Trump can continue to win only on culture wars, the minute he gets off that it's all trouble for him.

"Inflation came down, why are people still mad about the cost of living?"
1. People don't measure over 12 months;
2. Because of petrol; and
3. Because of mortgages.

New Colum McCann book Twist is quite a nice read and well done... Except for the part where the freelance journalist protagonist propels himself through a multi month international journey on a single commission for an online outlet! 1/2

This research goes so deep the headline doesn't do it justice. Very big moment in medicine: shines a bright light on how ebv affects b-cells. Plenty of that light is spilling over to multiple sclerosis too. Perhaps can even illuminate rheumatoid arthritis and #mecfs.

They've tested load of things, most fail to have any effect. The exception is Rapamycin, a molecule originally found in the soil on Easter Island (Rapa Nui).3/6

This take is partly accurate but it misses a media analysis angle. Media is increasingly global (because of the economics of news). We get more and more foreign news; less and less local. People resent *that*.
The "why do you care so much about the NY mayoral election" takes strike me as pretty obtuse. The world's sole superpower is being taken over by fascists, and this was part of the struggle to define what the opposition to that will look like. That obviously has major implications for all of us?

Ageing research gets a bad rap for the hucksters selling pills. But the NIH takes it seriously, testing four drugs each year on a lot of mice to see the effect on longevity. 1/6
