building and also conserved rare features like a 16th-century painted scheme while creating holiday accommodation, a community room and sustainable energy systems. Reopened in October 2024 by local MP Rachel Reeves, the hall now welcomes visitors of all ages.
A major restoration, led by Cowper Griffith from 2017, restored the building and also conserved rare features like a 16th-century painted scheme.

I love flowers (obviously!) but autumn's a great time to appreciate the beauty of seed heads too. I designed this set of linocut greeting cards to capture their interesting shapes 💚

This is a photograph of a set of 4 greeting cards lying on a wooden table surrounded by wild flowers and grasses. The designs were carved from lino and depict the architectural shapes of various seed heads, including cow parsley, aquilegia, grass and poppies.

Last week of Cedric Morris exh at Berwick's Granary Gallery. You can find his work at Gainsborough's House which holds a large collection but this is a rare chance to see it outside the south east www.maltingsberwick.co.uk/whats-on/ced...

In the “Pelican Portrait” of 1574, Elizabeth I pulls out all the stops with unbelievably elaborate outfit. You can hardly stop looking at the amazing detail of each piece & layer. Happy birthday to one who knew how to accessorize.

Liam Thorp, who writes for the Liverpool Echo, shared an article this morning in which he attempts to do just that 👍 bsky.app/profile/liam...

I’ve been frustrated to see so much of the ongoing story about asylum seekers and the protests against them covered without hearing from those seeking asylum and now being met with hostility and hatred

I set out to speak to those directly affected to find out about the impact this is having 👇
We escaped war and torture but now we feel unsafe in Britain
Special report: Amid protests and rising aggression towards asylum seekers across the country, we spoke to those being targeted

One of the most talked about artefacts on my table yesterday at the Guildhall was a recent Thames find (seen far left of my exhibits.) The hobnailed imprint of a docker’s boot in concretion - a moment captured forever in time. Not Roman, as first thought, but probably Victorian or slightly later 1/
My mudlarking finds table at the Guildhall exhibition yesterday. Featuring a range of favourite Thames-found artefacts including the imprint of a docker’s hobnailed boot in concrete, on the far left of the table. The imprint of a docker’s hobnailed boot in concretion, found by me on the Thames Foreshore, the artefact newly washed up on the low tide. Size comparison, the imprint of a docker’s hobnailed boot in concretion versus the sole of a man’s old leather boot I found further downstream. Traces of hobnail are also visible in the leather boot. Adding my green wellington boot to the size comparison in a line up with the hobnailed leather boot and the hobnailed boot in concretion, someone’s foot imprint captured forever in time.

There is deep concern about how
St Catherine's Monastery (6th century) is being transformed. Luxury hotels, villas and shopping bazaars are under construction. The Jebeleya tribe had their homes and tourist eco-camps demolished with little or no compensation.

It's one of those little glossy mags that gets posted through the letterbox and is usually just a billion adverts, with a few features about the Scouts or the latest achievements of the Bowling Club, with upcoming local events on the back pages, so this was a pleasant diversion.
