About a quarter of the $4.2 billion from a state green bond program has been deployed, including to several projects in the five boroughs.

As the city redoes sidewalks it's been enlarging tree beds—great for absorbing rainfall, great for the trees. Some beds are long rectangles in which a couple trees can grow. These, on a wide sidewalk near Riverside Dr, are the largest new square openings I've seen.

I was lucky to get a hard-hat tour of the Flatiron Building last week, as the condos in the famous former office building begin to take shape. The New York Times has my story—and the first photos of the project. Use this gift link to see what we saw

I'm always up for covering the latest buzzy building that goes up in New York. But it was a blast to write about the city's older, masonry, so-called Class B buildings—and the tenants that are attracted to them—for the New York Times. Here's a gift link:

Until recently, most Americans would have seen a video like this and assumed it took place in another country.
One day after the Supreme Court lifted the ban on racial profiling, federal agents swarmed a car in Van Nuys.

Four masked agents with guns drawn yanked people out, slammed them to the ground, and pointed a weapon at a pregnant woman.

There is no justification for this. None.

I love the Beltline, but this article makes some great points about how it's pushed out Black residents. So much of it is tied back to Atlanta's woeful transportation choices going back decades.
When a new section of the Atlanta Beltline opened recently, it was reason to celebrate: The path encircling the Georgia capital now extends 13 miles. But some in Black neighborhoods fear the gentrification and displacement associated with the Beltline. My latest 👇

"They're all terrible, except for Zohran," one told Hell Gate.

The helicopter crash that killed six people last week could have been worse had the aircraft landed on either side of the Hudson — and because of that, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop says limiting tourist flights is a no-brainer.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams disagrees.
Mayor Adams still backs helicopter tourism. Jersey City Mayor Fulop says it has to go.
In the wake of a crash that killed 6, Fulop says it’s ‘just a matter of time before somebody else gets hurt.
