I'll have a new collection coming out in March 2026. This one is going to be crimey, grimy, full of murder and drugs and violence. There are flashes of that stuff in American Animism, but it's a good little bit of sweetness before the darkness.
There are not many albums I've played more times than D'Angelo's "Black Messiah." "To Pimp a Butterfly" probably. Ass Ponys' "Electric Rock Music" definitely. A handful of others.

Reading and reviewing for the #100smallpress project was a thrill. I already knew small presses were publishing interesting, adventurous, important books, but this project solidified that. Watch for the list of 100 Notable Small Press Books on Dec 1st in Lithub.

I feel the same way. It's supposed to get easier, but, man, it's haaaard.
Not sure who I would be or what I would do if I didn't teach. Not better. That much I know.

Check out my weird little story "The Boys" up at Eunoia Review. Happy to see it out in the world.
Thanks so much for reading it and liking it, Mike!

I feel like I might look too jaunty in this picture.
First Bookfest in the books. Going back tomorrow.

What if I were to self-publish this weirdo little novel I have?

I have always loved books. It's still amazing to me that after 37 years of writing and about 50 years of reading, I added to the ocean of books out there. I am grateful to each and every person who has or will read AMERICAN ANIMISM, or the forthcoming BODIES IN BAGS. Just feeling grateful.

NEW ANTHOLOGY CALL!

After our upcoming Terry Allen incited anthology we were gonna cool it for a bit on our music-incited anthologies because we have a lot on our publishing plate here.

But eff it. Right now the world needs all the inspiration from Woody Guthrie it can get.

Just a reminder that if you enjoy a book, please leave a quick review on Amazon or Bookshop dot org, or wherever. Even if it's only a sentence, it really, really helps get the word out to other readers.

Just finished writing the first blurb I've ever been asked to write. What an honor. I can't wait to spread the word about this collection of stories.
