Father, Sci-fi fan, BBQ & all sorts of other cooking, and astronomy. Lately have added bread making, fermenting foods, astrophotography to my activity list.
All I’m asking is for Friday’s #SEAvsLAR to be a good game. Of course Seahawks should win, but I just don’t want any blowouts…

ChatGPT Atlas is fascinating. Had a conversation with chatgpt about telescope optical tube I was purchasing on Ebay, and what accessories I'd need to integrate it into my astrophotography setup. #astronomy

Seahawks blowout after a fun F1 race and a Bloody Mary makes for a fabulous Sunday.

Switched from Hulu TV to YoutubeTv, and now due to the Google/disney spat I’m missing the Brazil F1 this weekend.

The streaming wars are stupid.

Both kids are out earning some side money today and the wife and I are home readying for football. I think that’s a life goals achieved moment.

Good game Mariners. So close. Next year.

Mariners and Seahawks in one night is a lot.

I have an ask, as they say:

My newsletter is always free on Monday. Please share it with a nerd you know! I love astronomy and space, and I bet you know a lot of folks who do too. My whole point is to get the word out, and you can help immeasurably with that. Thanks!
In this corner: OCSN-49, a star cluster with hundreds of members wandering the galaxy

And in THIS corner: a diffuse giant molecular cloud with 100,000 times the Sun's mass just minding its own business

It's the CLASH of the EONS! Who will win?

Star cluster vs. giant molecular cloud: who wins?
The answer surprised me, and I do so love being surprised.

So is the next Home Server instead a shared bank of gpu’s and models for home computing devices of all sorts to use?

Well done M’s - someone get the pitchers some ice packs.

And the 14th inning. I picked the long one :)

Fair weather fan here watching the Mariners for game 5. Nice way to distract from a long week of… everything.

Pelican Nebula this time; NGC 5070. 3 hours of 180s exposures, Bortle 5 skies outside Seattle. Enjoyed this one, I'm getting into taking just one object a night vs 2-3.

Love Brian Lagerstrom’s croissant recipe. Two out of two times so far. I know he says it’s fussy, but it’s really not that bad.

You still have all the pain during surgery, you just don’t remember it afterward.

New cooking fail. Wanted to make bulgogi flavored beef jerky. Got through slicing, marinading just fine. Went to do the bring to 160F step for safety, but instead of laying out the slices on a rack, I put the marinaded beef in a pan.

This was so our game to lose, and we’re trying real hard to do so… #Seahwks

I think it’s about time to cancel my Lightroom subscription. The iPhone and built-in editing software are good enough for most of my needs.

RKF Jr. is a dangerous man who is determined to abuse his authority to act on truly terrifying conspiracy theories and disinformation—leaving us unprepared for the next deadly pandemic and snuffing out potential cures while he’s at it.

There’s plenty of disinformation trying to blame the nascent offshore wind industry for whale deaths without evidence. Not only is that misleading, it also takes the focus away from solutions that might actually address the leading causes of death — vessel strikes and entanglement with fishing gear.
Whales are dying, but it’s not because of wind farms
Investigating a whale beaching is grueling work, and scientists see the same culprit again and again.

This is, quite simply, bullshit. RFK Jr. is a conplete and utter crackpot, and one of the most dangerous this country has ever seen.

TIL that it's harder (impossible?) to make homemade ricotta cheese with Ultra-pastuerized, A2 milk. At least I only wasted a gallon of milk & two cups of cream (and some vinegar) on that lesson. #cooking

TIL where most of the mass that makes up a tree comes from. Like, the mass has to come from somewhere, right?

It’s not like the tree eats dirt.
