Yambio Seminary Accepts Goats and Charcoal for School Fees
(YAMBIO COUNTY) – A Catholic seminary in Western Equatoria has introduced an unusual but practical solution to help students stay in school despite South Sudan’s worsening economic crisis. The St John Paul II Institute of Philosophy now allows students to pay tuition with charcoal, goats, chickens, and farm produce instead of cash. The new system was launched after the seminary observed that many seminarians were unable to afford tuition, which is set at about 950,000 South Sudanese Pounds (SSP) per semester.

Nimule Braces for Return of Thousands of Cows
(ADJUMANI DISTRICT, UGANDA) – Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) on Thursday, 21 August 2025, forcefully expelled South Sudanese cattle belonging mainly to the Dinka Bor community from Adjumani District, sending the animals back across the border into South Sudan. SSPDF Officer Killed in Attack in Tambura County
(WESTERN EQUATORIA) - A South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) officer was tragically killed in an attack by armed groups in the Maringi area of Tambura County, local officials have reported. Tambura County Commissioner Mathew Mabenge informed media that the conflict occurred on Wednesday, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire between government forces and unidentified armed assailants. He stated that another officer was injured from a gunshot wound to the leg.
