"I always think back to my childhood and reminisce about how beautiful it was. Being a kid in Hawaii is like having a huge playground you can explore endlessly. I used to hike to watch the sunrise, surf, bodysurf, dive, bike around the island, skateboard … the list just goes on." -Mikah

My parents only wanted me to study when I went to college, which is why I went to a university where the unofficial motto was “where fun goes to die.” My child has been accepted at universities where he will get a great education ᴀɴᴅ where fun lives on. Balance. It’s a good thing.

One of my mother's friends has dementia. Her name is Jenny. She doesn't remember my name, but remembers that I'm the visitor who sings "they can never ever be Jennie/But have you ever met Jennie Jennie Jennie Jennie Jennie?" to her. I'm not a good singer/rapper, but she loves it. 💙

My mother would make homemade muguk/무국 — nutritious beef and radish soup — and drive over with my father, who was very sick at that time. She wanted to feed my baby but, more importantly, she wanted to feed her baby.

My final miscarriage was after my father's funeral.

Watched some old home movies w/my mom & was surprised at how skinny we all were. My aunts used to tell my sister she was fat. They started in on me later. We were thinner than the average female Kpop idol is today. Was there a purpose other than to be cruel? And if we had actually been fat, so what?

Q's for those who take cabs (not ubers) in big cities: Are drivers telling you how much the ride will cost w/o turning on the meter? They're doing surge pricing like ubers. I've had this happen in Chicago quite often lately, sometimes after they've already started driving.

Mental health isn’t taken seriously enough in general. It’s not like a fractured bone that can be put in a cast and healed. You can’t see a broken heart or a tortured mind. The K-drama "It's Okay, That's Love" tackles this subject in a nuanced way that feels real. 👇
“It’s Okay, That’s Love” Is Beautiful and Full of Heartache
The K-drama culminates with the kind of glorious truth that is both liberating and intoxicating.
