Many folk say teachers “knew what they were getting into”, but I sure didn’t expect to become a mental health expert! A recent poll shows student behavior (often tied to untreated mental health issues) is a top concern for teachers. If we don’t fix the root issues, I fear no “miracle” will occur! 🚩

Yes! But…don’t forget the elected folks who enabled or ignored his incompetence (including a guy now running for governor 🍌) & not one of them was a Democrat. If you’re angry about Ryan Walters, remember it in November ‘26. Elect more Dems, because two decades of GOP supermajority rule is enough!

When it comes to teaching/learning at high levels, class size matters, but it’s not all that matters. Speaking as a teacher, while it woulda been nice to have less than 30 7th graders in each class, it was the lack of supports (for kids who really needed them) that made it so tough to teach!

Brushing up on my Diane Ravitch… super important w/ literacy policy front & center for the 2026 session. If ya don’t know her work, she’s right about most everything in public ed, esp the harms of an over-focus on standardized tests/running schools like a business. Re: education, I often ask: WWDRD?

If we added 15 more days to the school year, the average district would spend appx $1M; statewide: $440–$620M.
I’d rather invest in what really helps kids: smaller classes, reading specialists, ⬆️ pay for support staff, mental health supports, etc.
I’m for improving our schools…but this ain’t it.

Saw an ad calling for a plan to fix Oklahoma’s low rankings (education, health, innovation) while claiming “it’s not political.” Respectfully, it IS political. One party has run the state since 2011, & it’s the Republican Party…so all of this occurred under one party Republican rule.
