The Mets have reportedly signed RHP Alex Carrillo

He topped out at 101 in the Independent Frontier League, he has a low release and a hard slider

Here are numbers on him courtesy of @tony_baseball_ on X, the Mets may try getting him to throw a true FF instead of that sinker

New Met Justin Hagenman is a low-90's guy with 5 distinct pitch shapes

The changeup is the most intiruging pitch here with good depth and fade

This is another pitcher with upside the Mets will try out in spring training

When IVB can be misleading

I have been looking into arm angles as a way to try and quantify unexpected Movement

If a pitcher’s IVB is above what is average for their arm angles we might be able to infer it rides more than expected

Desi is highly respected in the pitching development world

Mets Director of Pitching Development, Eric Jagers, played and worked under Desi when he was the pitching coach at the University of Iowa

This is a big loss for the Yankees and a big gain for the Mets

Created a Baseball Analysis Nerds starter pack.

Very much a work in progress, please send me more suggestions, including yourself. (If I'm not familiar with the account, will help if they have an obviously analytics-slanted profile or posts on Blue Sky.)

Lance Brozdowski’s latest video got me thinking about the differences in team-wide fastballs shapes

So I plotted every four-seam fastball thrown by the #RedSox and #Cubs in 2024

Notice how the Cubs' fastballs have more cut, while the Red Sox have more true riding four-seamers
