How can you use a Terraform Provider to automate your Permission System?

Well, that's what @veronicalg.bsky.social is going to tell us in this livestream later today.

It's Office Hours format so bring any questions you may have.

Today we launched Authorization Infrastructure for AI - with official support for RAG & Agentic AI.

AI needs robust access control. Else it can leak data, cross tenant lines, or act out of bounds.

Read how you can build scalable, cloud-native AuthZ for AI with SpiceDB:

Don't write your own authorization service!
Have you written a line of code that looks like this?

Then you're probably doing Authorization wrong.

Our latest video explores why this is the case - from the lens of technical debt, people, and also performance at scale.

We discuss this here:

If a new feature annoys users, makes their product usage more difficult/distracting, and cannot be turned off for paying customers:

This is not "AI."

It's a feature to increase customer churn - regardless of how cleverly engineered it is, how how expensive it was to build.

Platform engineering done right: adopt a customer centric approach. Your customers are the engineers in your company. If you're not building for them, you're just building for yourself. If it's not usable or solves real pain, you are wasting time and eroding trust.

Back to school in January!

For our first livestream of the year, we'll do a round of "Explain Like I'm 10" for Authorization concepts

We also have some pop quizzes prepared for you but there's no detention so you have no excuse to miss this.

A dual-write problem occurs when an application needs to write data to two different systems and maintain consistency between them. Errors can lead to an inconsistent state where the systems are in conflict

So how do you solve the dual-write problem?

Well..it depends:

The dual-write problem is present in any distributed system and is difficult to solve. We discuss where the problem arises and several approaches.

We're gonna have some fun on our livestream tomorrow by playing around with the @gitea.com data model.

We've hacked up a demo to build SpiceDB + Materialize support for ACL-filtered search.

Come hang with us for the last stream of the year 🎄🎅☃️

Are you a database geek?

Then you might be interested in learning about AuthZed Materialize

It's a real-time, consistent db materialized view that speeds up even the most complex SpiceDB queries & is quite possibly one-of-a-kind

Decades later, The Mythical Man Month is still relevant and a must read for engineering leaders.

So many insights.

My favorite: adding people to a late project makes it later. Reduce complexity and communication overhead instead.
This book (The Mythical Man Month) is an example of why books can be so important and influential even decades later.

Written in 1975, in a very different time, about software engineering: some parts are still relevant today.

The parts that don’t change that much.
