I loved the realism of this, ie there is some professionalism but also people crying and having panic attacks and wanting to talk to loved ones and they've either forgotten protocol or it just actually goes out the window in the event of something bad actually happening.

Jilly Cooper, author of Rivals and Riders, dies aged 88

The author of 18 ‘bonkbuster’ novels including Riders, Rivals and Bella has died following a fall Jilly Cooper has died at the age of 88, her agent has confirmed. The author, whose 18 novels include Riders and Rivals, “defined culture, writing and conversation since she was first published over fifty years ago,” said her agent Felicity Blunt. “You wouldn’t expect books categorised as bonkbusters to have so emphatically stood the test of time but Jilly wrote with acuity and insight about all things - class, sex, marriage, rivalry, grief and fertility.” Continue reading...

Thank you for confirming. RV was one of my lecturers at university. His Maigret intros show there's a lot more going on in those novels under the surface! Specific dates and times resonating with historical moments etc. Don't have those editions myself but luckily his intros are online.

Nish Kumar at Hackney Empire yesterday (afternoon show). Enjoyed the set but he didn't mention Starmer once and in terms of UK politics stuck mainly to Sunak and Johnson. Think people just want that stuff behind them now. Material needs updating.
