A study reveals that while global rates of caesarean section are rising, a significant proportion of these procedures in urban Tanzania lacked clear medical indications.

The research shows that 32 % of births were by caesarean, and of these, 40 % had no valid medical indication.

In October, ICM brought together midwives’ associations (MAs) from five countries to pilot the first Regional Advocacy Incubator. The Incubator ensures that national midwives’ associations are equipped to drive advocacy, amplify women and midwives’ voices, and connect local priorities to global agendas at the right time.
