I think it was the 80s textual RPG “The Tebbitt” that used the phrase “nonplussed at his plus-fours”; it baffled me for years!

The last time I used “nonplussed” was in the phrase “understandably nonplussed” in a Queens College essay on Tess of the d’Urbervilles [sp?] a million years ago. My clearly astonished fiction teacher gave it a big Yes in a circle. I guess that reaction is another bit of nonplussedness.
