I drove around this weekend and did my thing - I dropped off copies of my new book Unbound: Lost On Shelf in Little Free Libraries throughout NE Ohio! And as of today, you can snag a copy for yourself here: inkwits.bigcartel.com/product/unbo...

Do people still "do" Cliffsnotes? #comics
Unbound 198 - Panel #1: A police officer arresting a mouse in the foreground. The mood is sullen. Medium Porcupine, "Whoa, Galley. What did he do?" Galley, "He was caught cheating in the Summer Reading program." Panel #2: "He was listening to audiobooks at 1.5 times speed..." Panel #3: Outside. The mouse is being hauled off in a paddy wagon. Galley, "And he had Cliffsnotes." Medium Porcupine, "People still do Cliffsnotes!?"

I remember learning as a kid that my local library didn't have a limit on how many books you could take out on an adult card. There is such a thing as too much power. #comics
Unbound 197 - Panel #1: Leaf and Galley stand in the foreground. Leaf speaks to Tab, "Are you going to participate in the Summer Reading Program, Tab? Panel #2: Tab, "Maybe. How many books can I check out at once?" Panel #3: Tab is surrounded by piles of books. Leaf and Galley hold large stacks menacingly. Leaf, "How many can you handle?"

Was this through the online archive? I'm always looking for pencils for illustration assignments.

Thank you to my University for allowing me to participate in this faculty show. And thank you to Mike Schmidt for doing such an awesome job putting it together. It feels special to have comic strips hang in a gallery.

I don't care for the inverted balloon tail either. But then again, I'm a real stickler for good word balloon etiquette. None of these are even pointing toward her mouth! That first balloon is pointing toward her forehead. Then her neck. And then her forehead. So it's anarchy all around!

Yeah, this is a fairly standardized manga convention and you just have to know what it means through context and experience. You see it a lot in One Piece. The other convention I see that's never explained is black panel gutters meaning you are reading a flash-back.

Do you realize how long it took me to get to 500 followers over at the other place?

I just bought Affinity Publisher 2 in the last year. My new book is the first book I've made entirely without Adobe products. This is what I was trying to avoid! What an absolute bleak market for creative software.
Questions swirl over Affinity's future as Canva teases an announcement
Affinity has stopped selling its software ahead of "big changes" coming on October 30.

I've never claimed that my tastes were "mainstream," so maybe I've always been out of touch. But I'm continually shocked at which books actually get read by the most people.
Unbound 195: Panel #1 Leaf, "This book has been checked out so many times. Panel #2 "It's so beat up." Panel #3 "It has been so LOVED." Panel #4 Galley, "*Sigh* Is it that nose-picking book?" Leaf, "Yeah."

Possibly my favorite comic of all time! I think I'm missing one volume. It's not available in English, but there's a French edition. (Because of course there is) I believe the author is also active planning indie conventions in Japan, but it's hard to confirm that because of the language barrier.

I'm in the same place. I'll have to look into the neocities thing. Thanks for the lead. I'm in need of a whole new website anyway.

In regards to #2, I think it's important to keep audience in mind. I've had moms come up to my booth and ask, "Are your comics in color? Little Johnny will only read comics in color." Kids genuinely like it. It's appealing to that demographic.

Welp. I learned a new word today. I hate this.

Hot take: The money to be made in comics has always been in licensing, not in the comic itself. Japan does it right when they sell a book for 500 yen. Print is cheap, but it's not about the ROI. You can still turn a profit on print, but that shouldn't be the point - you are buying mind-share.
