A lot of things happening in this picture. I'll try to take you through it. The sun is setting behind the sea and behind a thick and chaotic cloud bank at the horizon. A small hole in the clouds at the right gives room for the suns beams to kiss the sea, falling diagonally to the right. On the left above the cloud bank the sky is clear blue. The sea is dark with white surf at the right, but illuminated and brigther on the left. In the foreground waves have just come in, expanding on the beaches sand, making it wet and bringing white foam and reflecting the sky's light.

Sunshine Beach headland

The last rocks in a headland jut out into a moderate swell stirred up by recent storms. Small waves are breaking over the rocks, and overhead a dark, ominous sky is pierced here and there by beams of light. Towards the horizon the sky is lighter, but still clouded.

The imposing sandstone walls of Geikie gorge on the Fitzroy river. A tourist boat on the river provides some scale, and the white markings on the rock face are witness to the huge rises in the river during flood.
