SPINE has been released on itch! You can download your PDF or a printable booklet today to start playing!

I'm keeping it FREE through the end of October.

SPINE is a solo tabletop RPG that looks like a book. It is your anchor to the fictional world, a prop, and a work of art — a keepsake — that you co-create, all in one.

In SPINE, you quite literally embody a researcher who is reading and marking up the physical book in front of you.

What the fuck?! Y'all don't deserve the hell Millei's brought down. Like it seems very similar to our situation with Trump but like. Substantially worse-- and it's also partly the US' fault because Millei was inspired by Trump!

Shouldn't we all have empathy for y'all going through that shit?

Hitting painfully close to home once again.

It does help, though, seeing other people acknowledge The Poverty Trap and express the anger, fear, and sadness that it evokes.

It feels like being trapped in a cage, sometimes. But it helps knowing we're not alone.

Of note, this applies to any medium. Painting, illustration, comics, TTRPGs, video games, music, etc.

There's nuance in when these commenrs are and aren't appropriate, and how to make them kindly that'd probably warrant a lengthy blog post. (Maybe I should go over art comment etiquette in general?)

I've been *both* flattered *and* insulted by comparative comments before!
incaseofgrace.bsky.social
It's worth remembering that comments like that can unintentionally *hurt*.

Sometimes it sounds like "someone already made something like this" or "I've seen this before" rather than "this reminds me of another thing I like, so I like it too!"
incaseofgrace.bsky.social
I've been really working on cutting the impulse to comment on artwork by noting how it reminds me of another piece of art.

It's a tough habit to kick but I'm finding myself stopping before the thought reaches my fingers most of the time, now!

Stuff like this is small but important. When I used to give talks at NAD in Montreal, I rarely talked about tools or process for making art. It was always focused on the psychological and emotional aspects of being an artist and how that applies to working in a studio, staying healthy, etc.

This advice is nothing new to a lot of folks, but may help some artists. If you're struggling to get into the flow for your project, start with the smallest tasks. Tiny fixes you need to do, setting up a scene, etc. For me, the flow starts after 20-40 minutes of working; so filling that time with

🎂 It's my special cake and candles day you all have to be nice to me because it's been QUITE the year 🎂

So share some of my paintings??
In the pew-lined interior of a dim medieval church lit by rows of candles on tall staffs and pale sunlight coming through a window, a tall humanoid crow figure with flowing black robes and a glowing yellow eye stands beneath an ornately carved semicircular arch in Norman Romanesque style. On the wall surrounding the arch are many colourful murals depicting more humanoid crow figures with halos, carrying various items including swords, spears, harps, and chalices.
A painting set in a cosy shady woodland clearing on a sunny summer's day. In the centre of the frame, two figures sit on a fallen log mostly hidden by vegetation. The figure on the right has wavy blonde hair down past her shoulders, and wears a flowing white floor-length dress with long sleeves, with delicate lacework around the cuffs and neckline. She looks into the distance with a contemplative, sad expression. On her lap rests a small green book, covered by both of her hands.
The figure on the left sits leaning with her head against shoulder of the other figure. She wears a similar dress but simpler, and in a dark slate grey. Her hair is dark and straight, and flows down her tilted face, and she looks off towards a nightingale bird perched on a nearby branch. She raises a hand towards the other figure as if to get her attention.

Both figures are surrounded by various flowers. On the left of the frame are many spires of foxglove flowers in vivid pink and white, interspersed among green stinging nettles. On the right are the purple flowers of monkshood/wolfsbane.

Wrapping around the figures is a clear stream flowing from a distant pond that descends in a series of steps. Around the stream are many small mossy rocks, and shoots of dark green dog's mercury.

Above and behind the figures and flowers are two trees; on the left is a weeping willow with dangling dark green leaves. On the right are the branches of an old ash tree. A snowy scene in which a humanoid figure in long black robes with the head of a rook stands in a churchyard holding a long spear. By its feet is a red fox. Both are flecked with fallen snow. Around them are many weathered snow-covered graves. In the background is a medieval church of warm coloured stone with large rectangular windows and a battlemented parapet topped with pinnacles. Behind the main body of the church is the tower with clock face and belfry. Behind the church are tall but bare trees dusted with snow. More snow falls in the air. Hopefully this will boost my presence on here! Been working on a Silent Hill series that's based off my own shit cuz I like thinking about what my silent hill would be and it would probably be a long boss rush

He's made some really awful comments about most minorities!

It ain't high art but it's having fun with itself, which is hard not to enjoy.

DL2 I felt was a bit too deep in the like, stock standard post apocalyptic melodrama that I found deeply uninteresting. Really enjoyed some of the goofier stuff in The Beast.
incaseofgrace.bsky.social
Worth noting, too, that there are a few sidequests that are genuinely fantastic in there, too. I enjoy that it was less afraid to get a little Weird.

Gameplay combines the best of DL1 and DL2-- the map has character, the combat flows real well, parkour is great with the glider removed.

Dying Light: The Beast is my favorite of the series, now!

The story is cheesy but it's like, actually engaging and enjoyable. It's kinda going into some Resident Evil sort of territory with schlocky evil science

There's a hook at the end that has me actually interested to see where they go next!
