American audiences don’t really have an appetite for home-away aggregate format. Nor do they like ties in the playoffs. So, they have JUST enough room in the schedule to do one best-of-3 to give all 16 main playoff bracket teams a home match, and just enough remaining time for one-off games. 2/2

As much as I hate to defend the playoff format - it makes sense in context. MLS league bylaws require MLS Cup to be no later than first week of December. MLS also finally chooses to obey the international windows in the playoffs. MLS owners want playoff revenue from at least one home game. 1/2

I feel like the mitigating factor that you may be forgetting in a VAN/MIA final is Lionel Messi has never scored against a side fielding Andres Cubas at d-mid across club and country. Also, unless the soccer gods hate us, Blackmon SHOULD be back for that final, which would help our whole CB mess.

Probably because it takes both a team with a no-quit mentality on the side of 10 and a team desperately hanging on for points on the other.
I don’t think they can take us 11 v 11 even with Musa in the mix tbh.

As frustrating as the Laborda red getting issued via VAR is, you just cannot give the referee a decision to make in this day and age like that. Caps were struggling early to deal with the route one approach FCD took, and paid for it. Still could have won it though, and that says loads about them.

The exact language on why a yellow, “the offender is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball or a challenge for the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.), the offending player must be sent off.” #VWFC #DOGSO

Because a PK was awarded, so long as the last defender makes a challenge to the ball it’s only a caution.

What’s a bit striking to me is that the Whitecaps’ official YT account posted that interview in full, and then took it down today, reposted an hour later without the entire segment with Har. Seems like maybe the brass felt it didn’t come off as jovial as everyone else did.
