We recently completed the first year of the Impetus Learning Exchange and Resource Network, otherwise known as ILEARN™ (yes, we started with the acronym and built backwards).

To boost cross-team collaboration, ILEARN created sessions for Impetus colleagues to learn more about each other’s work.🧵

The research found that despite a strong sense of ambition and a clear desire to succeed in life, daily attendance is no longer a given for students and ‘presenteeism’ online drives absenteeism in schools.

Persistent absence has risen sharply since the pandemic, with thousands of young people missing vital classroom time each week. As Susannah explained:

The private equity sector raises more than £400,000 for the Impetus Triathlon 2025, allowing 22 non-profit organisations to help more young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to succeed in school, work and life.

Impetus co-chairs the Youth Employment Group (YEG), whose Young Person’s Guarantee helped to shape the Government’s new Youth Guarantee. It calls for wraparound support for those out of learning or work, for the long term and at an earlier stage.

Our Youth Jobs Gap report shows 75% of young people who are NEET for three months have been NEET for 12 months – meaning most NEET young people are out of work for the long-term.

To be most effective, the guarantee must be offered early – within four months of leaving employment or education, rather than after 18 months of disengagement. And with so many young people facing such high barriers to work, the guarantee must offer more than just a placement.
