A recently commissioned map of a private client's D&D world for their upcoming campaign.

The main themes of the world were the balance of light and dark and of exploring ancient magitech ruins, something I incorporated into the border.

Personally my favouritestyle of prompt has been from Thousand Year Old Vampire. If it's too vague I freeze up and can't think of something, but too detailed can often not fit.
I do like questions as they can make you look at a situation in a way you wouldn't have considered

By the way, at the beginning of this year I decided to do a study on how much artists charge for commissions. Essentially, I wanted to make sure my own prices were fair while also trying to help educate others.

For the past 6-ish months l've been collecting commission posts by artists I both follow and or got retweeted into my Twitter feed, with the sole purpose of studying how much they charge and what would be fair to charge for my own commission prices once I start those up again.

I honestly have no idea if anyone else would find this interesting but I figured it could be a good thing to share anyway and to hopefully open the eyes of those charging too damn little because..... gods... I saw so many amazing artists charging too little...

As mentioned before... this little project was done to figure out what's fair in the terms of a BASE. Meaning that, you take that base and build on it. Don't price yourself at $66 for a fully rendered chibi if you think your chibis are worth $200. In the end I want everyone to make more money, not less! Gods know we work hard for it and are WORTH IT.

So yeah... good luck

Number of artists I looked through: about 75+ artists.

Pricing: all in USD (any prices from artists charging in different currencies were calculated for today's exchange rate — Feb 2nd 2024)

Criteria and notes: despite the fact I looked through 100's of artists, not all of them offer the same stuff. Which is why something like "twitch emotes" was only averaged through calculating 4 different prices, while "full body colored character" was averaged through almost a hundred prices...

I COULD have gone looking specifically for people who offer more emote commissions to get a better idea out of it, but that probably would have taken way more hours than I already put into this, so l think I'm good with this for my own purposes.

One of the hardest things about this is that artists have a variety of styles that sometimes don't seem to fit into the same category, when really, they do. Like, one artist will have prices for a fully rendered colored piece and it looks closer to being done in a cel-shading style with some rendering, vs an artist who does a painterly rendered style where you can see strokes everywhere! Neither of those artists are more or less deserving than the other, but it ends up being one of those things where I was left wondering, should I write down the price in the same category?

I tried my best to keep things as fair as possible, but in the end I'm also technically doing this out of my own curiosity and in search for "some kind of fairness" ... so uh... yeah, don't expect this to be
anywhere near perfect!

Discarding figures, Note: originally I had more than 100 artists picked, easily. But as I started going through everything, I discarded artists whose pricing was so low, it wasn't considered good unless you could get said commission done, in a few minutes, tops. I know some artists are INCREDIBLY fast... but who knows if that's why they had their prices so low.

• Sketch Com Colored — flats or slightly shaded.
• Bust: $51 (a: 10)
• Half Body: $68.75 (a: 12)
• Full Body: $90 (a: 14)

• Inked Com.
• Bust: $48.83 (a: 6)
• Half Body: $70.62 (a: 8)
• Full Body: $100 (a: 10)

• Colored Com — slight variation of styles from more high grade cel shading with some painting, to fully painterly renderings (yeah trust me this one is a mess to work with).
• Bust: $98.59 (a: 68)
• Half Body: $135.57 (a: 68)
• Full Body: $179.10 (a: 75)

PS: I'm sure someone somewhere out there has done a study like this sometime in the past, but I figured doing one in 2024 would also be nice? I'm not a numbers/maths person, but I did my best, I swear!!
