My grandson working in San Fransisco asked for ID on this. I think it's a Golden Eagle but I'm not familiar with US birds. Can anyone confirm please
Last day on Scilly, despite a cancelled Ferry and hastily arranged flight it's been great. One lifer (Mourning Dove) but it's Firecrests everywhere, Ouzels,Thrushes, Jack Snipe that make the place special. That and friends to share a beer with. Thanks to @p-sharpe.bsky.social for making it fun.
One of three Orca seen over a protracted period on our trip with @scillypelagics.bsky.social today.
Plus one of several hundred Great Sheerwaters. Also: 20+ Sooty Sheetwater, 6+ Bonxie. Pictures courtesy of @p-sharpe.bsky.social
Cheers Leon, you'll get there!
Cheers, second time we've reached 300 on Scilly so doubly nice.
Lapland Bunting, St Agnes. Our 300th of the year.
Well done. Long overdue Brambling today took us to 299...
Scilly day 3. Lovely birding around Old Town, Lower Moors and Porthcressa.
Highlights: Rosy Starling, Brambling, Lesser Whitethroat, Great Egret, Black Redstart. Friends, old and new, to share the experience with.
Excellent blog, we were on St Agnes and had a very similar day including a well earned beer at the Turks!
Mourning Dove, St Agnes, IOS.
Great birding on St Agnes, Isles of Scilly today. The Mourning Dove showed well and was a lifer for us. Also: American Pipit, Hoopoe and plenty of common species to keep us amused. 🙃
Common Rosefinch still at Porth Hellick beach today.
Firecrest in trees along the railway line at Lelant Saltings. Winter's coming! 😉 #c
2, possibly 3 Curlew Sandpipers from Lelant Saltings on the rising tide this afternoon. #cornwallbirding
White-rumped Sandpiper at Siblyback Reservoir this morning.

Find some for us, arriving Thursady, please!
Great video, it left between us saying hello as you left and getting to the tower.
Morning on Cairngorm, lucked in on Ptarmigan just before the cloud closed in. Afternoon spent on the Black Isle: single Barnacle Goose among thousands of Pinkies, 200+ Scaup on the Firth, 20+ Slavonian Grebes.
Lovely day birding the area between Thirso and John O' Groats in Caithness. Group found Bony's was a highlight but so much more to enjoy: 5 Hen Harriers, our most Northern Great Egret, 3 Diver species, Eiders and so much more. Sadly few passerine migrants, just 2 Wheatear.
Bonaparte's Gull, Dinner Bay, Caithness. Also Mediterranean Gull. Flew out to sea 11.45.
Some pre breakfast Black Grouse action from day 1 of our Heatherlea trip. Day continued well with excellent views of Cresties, a Golden Eagle, 2 WT Eagles, Red Grouse. Also Crossbills, Redpoll and plenty of Red Squirrels
The tiny Todd's Canada Goose (🤞for my ID) at Hesketh Out Marsh today. Also: our first Pinkies of the Autumn, a good range of common waders, Great and Little Egret, Spot Fly. A gorgeous Barn Owl circumnavigated the car park as we watched the goose and a Weasel showed as we left. Lovely site.
2Ruddy Shelduck still at Blithfield Red, Staffs. Distant from the causeway.
