That’s more or less how cine cameras once worked although the motion was sideways and the system was called rack over They had external VFs for use when the lens was back over the film gate.

One thing that was common to all of Mamiya’s camera lines was an almost insane number of accessories, many of them quite obscure. I have the cold weather battery gizmo for my Mamiya 7ii but I’ve not gone for the very strange fixed distance close up attachment nor its opposite, the 35mm pano setup.

One wonders if there was also internal corporate tension because of Mamiya’s own MF SLRs

Construction equipment spending the night in the bush along South Portage Road, Lake of Bays, Ontario (Leica M Monochrom, 35mm f1.4 Summilux ASPH)
A small loader and roller are tucked into the edges of a logging road leading to a gravel road. The scene is dark, lit by whatever evening sun is making it over a hill and through the trees.

It was just a map alternating with an ad for the trains.

Bayview O Train Station, westbound platform, Ottawa. (Leica M Monochrom, the M9 based original, 50mm f1.2 Noctilux ASPH)
A cylinderical payphone booth on a concrete platform in frton of a window. A suicide prevention help notice is to its left. A cabinet to the right has fire hose connections and an extinguisher. A phone pictograph is above a push button emergency call station. A illuminated sign further ride is overexposed. Trash and recycling receptacles are underneath it.

The purchase of the U.S. wharf is certainly a good start to its renewal but there’s still a long way to go.

The second payphone at the Wolfe Island Ferry terminal in Kingston, Ontario. It's impossible to tell from the outside if the adjacent new terminal building will boast this feature. Although it seems unlikely. (Leica M Monochrome, 35mm f1.4 Summilux ASPH)
A glass sided payphone kiosk in a small entranceway. Recycling and trash bins are below it and some sort of fire alarm indicator panel is to its right. Lettering, reversed in the photo, on the window reads, in English and French: "Ferry users only."

Thank you. And you have the advantage on that one in that you photographed it while I haven’t done so.

Thank you. That’s an excellent one. I’m passing through London soon and may go by the airport.
ianausten.bsky.social
Thank you. I’m sort of kicking myself for not going there earlier.

Aboard the Ontario government ferry from Wolfe Island to Kingston. (Leica SL Typ 601, 35mm f1.4 Summilux M)
A night scene from a ferry boat deck. A large moon is glinting off the ripples of a lake. An open steel staircase, lit from the top, dominates the scene and casts a prominent shadow. To the right a yellowy light illuminates an alcove to a steel door with a large wheelchair accessibility symbol on it.

Île d'Orléans, Quebec. Clearly there was not enough pay phone demand from hot corn on the cob diners. (Hasselblad SWC, Zeiss 38mm f4.5 Biogon, Kodak Tri-X)
A Bell Canada pay phone kiosk with is missing its phone inside a dining overhang at a farm stand. A sign made to look like a scroll reads (translated from French) Fruit, Vegetables, Roger Pouliot, Maple Products, Hot Corn on the Cob. There is a long bench under the sign and phone. A picnic bench is in the foreground, another is outside of the sheltered area.

A former schoolhouse in Selby, Ontario, near Napanee. (Hasselblad SWC, Zeiss 38mm f4.5 Biogon, Orange filter, Kodak TriX)
The shadow of a large tree leads up to a small, white stucco building that is somewhat ramshackle and surrounded by an unkempt lawn. The sky is mostly clear and there are two trees behind the building to the left. A long row of round hay bales covered in white plastic are out in the field.

One of the doomed rest stops on Quebec Autoroute 20 between Quebec City and Montreal. Also the only remaining one with an indoor phone. Why the phone has such a large waste bin is unclear. (Hasselblad SWC, Zeiss 38mm f4.5 Biogon, Kodak Tri-X)
A all-tiled entrance to a institutional building. The Walls are white, the floor darker. A payphone is mounted on the wall a large, plastic trash bin underneath it. Above the phone is a frame highway map. Two empty frame flank it. A door to the right opens into a washroom. A long strip of florescent lighting runs along the white ceiling.

Stay tuned Heather. Some refurbished and reinstalled phones are coming up this week

Another Ontario government ferry-related payphones. The first of two in the soon to be replaced Wolfe Island ferry terminal in Kingston. (Leica M Monochrom, 35mm f1.4 Summilux ASPH)
A payphone kiosk mounted on a wall with a metal bucket of unknown purpose mounted to its left. The wall above it curves around and has large white light globes mounted on it. Behind is a large map of Wolfe Island.

You need a toonie now! Or eight quarters

The dock is fairly isolated so my sense is that it's kind of a late night hang out spot.

The Adolphustown, Ontario dock of the Glenora ferry that crosses the Bay of Quinte. A crew member told me that the phone booth is slated for removal. Apparently local youth have been make prank 911 calls from it late at night. (Chamonix 45N1, Schneider 180mm f5.6 APO Symmar, Kodak TXP320)
A night photo of a Bell Canada phone booth up a wide, outdoor stairway and in front of a peaked roof building with a map on the outside and a sign reading Public Washrooms. There are several lamp posts scattered around, some with old fashioned style globes on top and castings at their bases.
