Even if it was explained, incorporating magic technology is not really science fiction. Warp drive isn't what makes Star Trek science fiction.

That's not why they're getting cancelled. They are getting cancelled because they aren't getting the subs needed to justify their cost of production.

When you get a job to draw a comic book, how much real creative control do you typically get when working with established characters?

They had to find a very absurd reason to turn an episode of Strange New Worlds into a musical. If that doesn't scream "I want to write something other than Star Trek!" then I don't know what to tell you.

He literally hosted the ready room after each episode until recently. You can't expect him to come out and say "nobody involved knows or cares anything about Star Trek" when that was his job.

"This is the power of math, people!" is not something an intelligent person would say in a professional setting after solving a problem.

"Glad you were with us out here in the real world today, Mr. Barclay." is what an intelligent person would say in a professional setting after solving a problem.

It all added up to being believable, yet aspirational, television. It was as much a workplace drama at times as it was science fiction and action. The fate of one character or one ship pre-2005 could have as much weight as the entire Universe does in the Kurtzman shows.

The changes made to shows before 2005 weren't departures from fundamental principles like portraying the characters as trained professionals running a spaceship. They were not all experts in everything, so they had the usual situation room scenes to view the issue from each character's perspective.

It's a valuable brand. That's why it is called Star Trek. JJ Abrams used his kelvinverse movies to put himself in the driver's seat for Disney Star Wars, and I think Kurtzman was hoping to get a seat in the Marvel Universe. That's why it is all meaningless action.

Wil Wheaton collects a paycheck hyping the show. It is pretty obvious from what I've seen that everyone writing these shows would rather be writing something else.

'When authoritarians seize power, it is crucial to recognize courageous defenders of freedom who rise and resist,' the Norwegian Nobel Committee said as it announced Maria Corina Machado as the winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize

Trump calling up the Texas National Guard to conduct law enforcement actions in Chicago is basically unprecedented.
iamthesherm.bsky.social
Not exactly. It wasn't the regular army or a different state's National Guard being sent to Arkansas. Eisenhower issued an executive order that placed the Arkansas National Guard under his command after the Governor (a Democrat) ordered them to prevent the students from entering the school.

No, the other insulin case in the trial was much more in line with observed neonatal test results. And there may have been a third case of suspected insulin poisoning that was not brought up at trial. 🤔

That said, *none* of them were ever properly verified at an appropriate lab.

That can't be right. Dr. Shoo Lee has better credentials than you even bother pretending to have, but you still claim he is clueless.
iamthesherm.bsky.social
Under your theory, the doctor didn't do anything to address it for two hours. Under my theory, he didn't do anything to address it for 1 hour. Which is worse?

No, but sometimes being at work is boring, so I post here. You, retired NHS Consultant that you are, have no real excuse with all the free time to pursue hobbies at your leisure. 😂
iamthesherm.bsky.social
Well I'm not just going to take your word for it that what you claim actually happened.

Some good news.

That "Texas won't execute a guy who is likely innocent, at least in the near future" counts as good news right now . . . says a lot about right now.

But I'll take it.

The biggest thing the government did to fight bigotry was ending its enforcement (on paper, anyway, not really in practice as we are seeing with today's kavanaugh stops).

What do you mean by reliable? the test may very well be perfectly accurate, but the sample being tested was not taken in proper conditions. The baby had been given a half dozen injections of glucose during the day while fighting an infection. Are the results so surprising then?

I don't need to rely on credentialism to support my theories on the internet. Why is every comment on Bluesky with the word Letby immediately followed by a reply from you? What was your handle on Twitter before you came here? Were you a doctor over there, too?
iamthesherm.bsky.social
Why should I have to ask Letby or the midwife to bolster your theory? Follow your proposed timeline to its logical end. Letby punches a baby at some time before 9 PM, mother shows up just after 9, Letby waits until 10 to call the doctor, the doctor waits until after 11 to begin treatment. 🤔

I'm not a drinker, but you are pretending to be a retired NHS consultant. You've said so several times.

What evidence did they give? I recall one nurse testifying that Dr Gibbs apologized to her for leaving a baby's monitor turned off when he suggested that Letby had done it.
