OK, so the time has come for my 2024 Best Things I Read thread, which started over on the Everything App (and you can already find Pt1 of this year's list over there if that's your scene). But I thought that it would be a good way to introduce myself in this parish
Over on the Everthing App, I've done a thing over Christmas for the last four years where I share a (very long) list of all the articles I enjoyed most that particular year. Given what appears to be a significant enough exodus currently from the darkest timeline, thinking about replicating it here

They can afford to be this blatant because who is going to stop them?
FIFA have given the Saudi bid for 2034 the same 4.1/5 score for its stadiums - despite eight not yet built - as they gave to the Canada-Mexico-USA bid for 2026, all of which are built, many of which are world leading NFL stadia.

I mean, how?

This is actually worth reflecting on (they will not reflect on it).

If you have people *who vote for you* unhappy with the experience of your election, that’s a Signal that something went awry in that relationship.

Insisting the voters were wrong has been the Labour Party’s prison for years.
This is fascinating. The Greens' Ossian Smyth posted a June 2020 wishlist for government, and they've achieved much of it. Yet, the Greens could lose all their seats. It's a bit depressing.

Mildly interesting: SF running 2 candidates in newly minted 5 seater Kildare North, including an incumbent. My town ear marked for the incumbent's campaign, assuming running mate has south of constituency. But zero mentions of a running mate on any posters whatsoever, no indication of vote transfer

Reminded as ever at this time of year of Joe Pesci's range, with these two films somehow coming out within less than three weeks of each other. What a month for the great man

Anyone who needed this judgement to know McGregor for what he is probably still won't cop for it but nice to see it spelled out in 20 foot letters. Up Nikita Hand

There seems to be a pretty decent chrome extension for desktop to help find Bluesky handles for followers/follows from Twitter, has anyone found similar for mobile? The little echochamber I had constructed over there was really to my liking!
