Couldn't not hand you this all-timer of a post by our glorious non-political UCI president
Pogacar did that once this year and it wasn't even a full solo, why is everyone so hung up on that?
Sadly, I think as a domestique for the ardennes classics.
Without Pogacar, Van der Poel would have won 5 of the last 6 editions of RVV on top of the last 3 editions of PR, Vingegaard would have won the last 5 Tours and Evenepoel would be double Olympic, double World and double European champion. Would that make the sport more exciting?
But then also, how boring would Milano-Sanremo and Paris-Roubaix have been without Pogacar? The Worlds, Euros and Lombardia would have also been won with a solo by the same guy if Pogacar wasn't there and Vingegaard would have had absolutely no competition in the Dauphiné and the Tour.
Gruel wanted to keep riding, but for some reason Lapeira decided to sit up and get themselves caught by a group with better sprinters. As a Trentin fan, I'm not mad, but it's a weird tactic.
Vine or any other UAE rider for that matter.
I don't want to hear anything about UAE being unbeatable tomorrow. At least half those teams should try to put multiple riders in the breakaway and UAE doesn't have a strong enough team to control it all. If Vine ends up winning, that's on their opponents.
Ah yes, famous mountain specialist Ganna, he's going to win the race. How about they send climbers in the break next time. The 2 best riders from the break today were Simmons and Matthews.
You call 14 riders a strong breakaway when they were chasing behind with 2 teams (a total of 14 riders)?
You pissed me off, so I don't give a shit.
You're tactics are "don't use any tactics at all", so again, shut the fuck up.
I've already explained that, so either read my comments or shut the fuck up.
And again, the whole point of going in the break is so they don't have to be faster. So the Bolt-analogy is really stupid.
If there was a chance to beat Pogacar today, it would have been from the break. Teams were just too scared to try.
I think today is a good example that it can work. If more riders, specifically climbers, were up there with Simmons, they would have had a better shot at staying in front. Instead, Simmons was out there alone, Pogacar attacked and no one could follow.
He's a hero to children who choose to start cycling because of him. Maybe the sport loses some viewers in the short-term, but it can help the sport grow in the long run.
A dominant rider reaches a wider audience, it brings overall awareness to the sport. Even non-cycling fans have heard of Merckx 50 years after his career. It's easier for people to start watching the sport if they're already familiar with something.
Well, if that's everything anyone is willing to try, I don't want to hear anyone complaining anymore. If you don't like the outcome, go watch a different sport.
So, what? No one should try anything and everyone goes crying after every race? That's an awesome solution.
If he is, then at least he doesn't have his team around him, they can still attack him from that group. If he still wins, so be it, he deserves it. But it's the only way to beat him. What's the other option, wait until he attacks himself? That hasn't really worked out well in the past.
It's 2 teams against 23, today it should be only 1 against 23. Even for a strong team like UAE, it's not controllable when every other team decides to attack in the first 100 km of the race. Flanders this year had an 8 man break, of course they'll control that. Imagine if it's 40+ riders.
That's what I mean. 100 km is not enough. You can't build an advantage on the favorites when you're so close to the point where they'll attack. If only Alpecin and UAE have to control the race and every other team tries to attack, the break might have a chance.
Not enough climbers in the break, though. I just don't understand why so many teams don't want to try to put more riders in the break. Red Bull could have easily put Pellizzari and Aleotti in the break instead of pulling in the peloton.
