This firefighter arrived in the US at age 4, has been here for 19 years, was on track to legal status, and was on a crew trying to contain a major blaze (in Washington state, vs Oregon, fwiw.)

Due to the Musk/Trump Administration’s draconian cuts, the National Science Foundation is significantly scaling back its program to provide college students with paid summer research internships. Many of my colleagues attribute their start in science to this program.

Finally worked up the nerve to call my reps (when I knew I would get voicemail lol😅) and it was not that bad. I adjusted the script they had to be more personal but it was helpful to have something to use as a base and all the phone numbers lined up for me.

My dad was in college by the time ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi was allowed in schools. It's been generations since anyone in my family was fluent. I'm so proud of the work people are doing to keep our language alive, but we are still very much feeling the hurt and loss from this law

Decided to start drawing again :)

Kūpaoa, also called naʻenaʻe (Dubautia menziesii), is endemic to the summit of Haleakalā. It can hybridize with ʻāhinahina, and can be used to scent kapa.
