Arguably, the UK's role/contribution in its creation and development is the greatest foreign policy achievement of the UK since the 2nd World War.
Does anyone imagine that they remember a time when politicians thought it was their job to move the voters to the moral high ground โ€“ rather than chasing them down the sewers?

Reminds me of something I read years ago (by The Times's legendary cricket correspondent, John Woodcock), after the latest umpiring controversy.

I can't remember Woodcock's exact words, but it was very much along the lines of: "incompetent they [umpires] quite often are; dishonest almost never".
Imagine John Redwood being willing to put his name to trash like that...
