That tense moment when you switch what your primary domain and sub-domains urls point to … and your entire online presence evaporates for several long minutes while waiting for the DNS updates to go live and spread … the tension to see if you made a mess of the DNS edits …

In what is now a solid tradition, the most important post-SC event ... publication of Glenn's SC notes!

I wrote up my notes from #SC25. Have a look: blog.glennklockwood.com/2025/12/sc25...

I’ll keep picking away at the editing, but would love to hear more from others about what stood out to them. I wasn’t at the conference itself as much this years as in the past, so I know I missed a lot.

Runways, roads, railways, datacentres, houses, supermarkets, … this observation often feels accurate
People don’t hate datacenters being built near them, they hate *anything* being built near them. The median position is never build anything

Can you claim to be a real #HPC software engineer if you've never coded with at least 2 of #Fortran, #MPI, #OpenMP, or #CUDA?

Can you claim to be a modern #supercomputing scientist if you've never worked with at least 2 of #cloud, #AI/#ML, #FP16, or #RSEs?

Big #F1 news - Adrian Newey to become Aston Martin team principal!

Could go either way - some technical leaders discover they have a hidden management genius within them. For others, the difference between a top team leader and a top tech leader rapidly become clear.
Aston Martin has confirmed Adrian Newey will be its new team principal, replacing Andy Cowell, who becomes chief strategy officer. #F1 #QatarGP

Why can you never fix the blame on good C programmers?

Because they always know how to point to another memory!

Because they know how to do inheritance!

Why are plays written by Fortran 77 programmers boring?

Because they can’t have more than 6 characters!

Why are Unix programmers like crabs?

Because they prefer to stay in their shells!

Evidence that PGMOL/VAR interpretation of offside rule clearly varies from one week to next

When will PGMOL be held to account other than Howard occasional TV appearances to explain away poor decisions?

PGMOL’s mistakes are what is harming attitudes to refs, not behaviour of managers or players
There's absolutely no doubt that Ndoye was in an offside position. VAR presumably satisfied he wasn't interfering / in line of sight.

Do I understand this compared to the #lfc disallowed goal against Man City? Not really.

Arrived at #SC25

I’m away from my computer today 😁 mostly … you’ll understand if you see me …

Feel free to say hello if you see me around.

Looking forward to a great week of people and technology etc.

Boarding first of the three flights I need to take today to get to #SC25 … long day of travel ahead!

Wonder how many other #HPC people I will see on these flights?

This week has been so crazy I’m actually considering the wild intensity of #SC25 next week will be an improvement!
