280 - Desktop Tower Defense released in 2007. A game that felt like it literally created a genre. So many hours wasted on this game. It was the first pure tower defense game I ever played.

279 - Crackdown released in 2007. Often known as the game packed in with Halo 3 demo it was a good game in its own right. The sequels just never found the same magic. People saw agility orbs in real life just like Tetris.

When all we had to read (games related) was EGM and GamePro then we read everything multiple times. Now there is social media and websites and emails all drowning each other out. Too many voices are probably worse than too few in getting people to actually care to read.

277 - BioShock released in 2007. Calling this an FPS almost seems wrong. It is technically true, but its story and atmosphere are more important than the game style. This was an amazing game for me.

I was like, wait new Xbox doc, then realized this was from a few years ago. It was great. It is heart breaking now. Pretty sure hardware Xbox makes it to 25th anniversary next year. Not sure it makes it to 30th.

Scenario: You have a pair of dogs that were litter mates that you got at same time. Training them independently has some success but anytime you attempt to do things with both of them it is failure. Example walking without pulling on leash. Alone, great, together constantly racing each other.

276 - Wii Sports released in 2006. This is THE Wii game. For many it was the only Wii game. This is the game that introduced the world to motion controls. Something that dominated for a decade and kind of faded away.

275 - New Super Mario Bros. released in 2006. The first new 2D Mario in a decade. Bringing with it new innovations and creating a new series. It seemed to fit well on the DS.

274 - Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy released in 2006. The second of now countless LEGO games. This has a lot of refinements from first and led into many more games like it. Great co-op games.

273 - Gears of War released in 2006. The second pilar of the Xbox shooter series. Another series where all the mainline games are great. I just played through the second remake. I have played all the games.

272 - Company of Heroes released in 2006. My first introduction to Relic's brand of RTS. Amazing evolution of the RTS. It had squads that could gain experience and level up. Part of Games for Windows initiative.

271 - Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day! released in 2006. Almost like Tetris for Game Boy I think Brain Age was a key seller of DS beyond the core gamer group. It was featured on national news shows.

Your MAME and other emu updates are a fun read. Seeing names like Haywood and Belmont that I remember from 20 years ago when I was heavy into MAME is great. A core handful of amazing developers contribute so much to MAME.

Books, TV, Movies, Video Games, Comics, Music. All have had items of art that have had huge cultural impacts that 50% experiences and the other half doesn’t know it exists. Far more likely today with the fracturing of delivery methods and self built echo chambers. The common touchstones are fading.
