Devoted to family, synagogue, and the Mets, not necessarily in that order.

A #Mets fan’s quandary: rooting for Max Scherzer or rooting for the Dodgers in World Series game 7.
Hubie Brooks was a fan favorite because of the joy with which he played baseball. He also came along at a time when the Mets had experienced more failure than success at 3B, allowing fans to breathe a sigh of relief that the Mets had a legitimate 3rd baseman.
I assume you meant “Acting US Attorneys.”
Before you get to the announcement on DOJ’s website about so-called monitoring, you see an announcement, in violation of the Hatch Act, that because Democrats have shut down the gov’t, its websites are not being regularly updated. I guess updates designed to scare away voters in Dem areas are ok.
Joe Torre, Wes Westrum, Jeff Torborg. “Tools of Ignorance” no more.
There was a bias in MVP voting in favor of players on pennant winning teams. The Pirates finished in first place in the NL East that season, 12 games ahead of the 3rd place Cardinals. I think that bias still exists, although possibly not so strongly in these days of “metrics.”
I saw Seaver strike out Hank Aaron 3 times at Shea Stadium on July 8, 1967. Aaron went 0 for 4 against Seaver that day.
The first day since winter 2024-25 without a baseball story in the sports section. A long winter begins. 🥶 #LGM
Indeed, it was in Durham (Derm) that I learned that “How are you today?” is pronounced “Hairutiday?”
Virginia’s Buena Vista is pronounced “Be You Na Vista.”
Good point! There probably aren’t a lot of Marvin Miller admirers over there.
Agree, but I’ve seen two people on here who are indeed begrudging Pete his payday, as you so well put it.
I see #Mets fans here who are upset Alonso is opting out. They want him to be loyal to the Mets. I want to be respectful, but I think those fans are wrong. The reserve clause is dead. The Mets could’ve offered Pete a longer contract. He’s now able to get what he can. I hope he gets it from the Mets.
Really excellent article on the #Mets shortcomings for those who can access it. Unfortunately, “gift articles” from THE ATHLETIC can’t be done.

How the Mets lost their groove: Inside baseball’s biggest collapse
Talented, yes, but this year's Mets lacked sizzle. They were MLB's only team never to mount a ninth-inning comeback.

After explaining why the Reds and Diamondbacks would be difficult wild card opponents for the Dodgers, Jessica Mendoza, an otherwise excellent commentator, goes on to say why the #Mets would be the weakest. I hope the Mets get to the wild card round and prove her wrong! #LGM
Who’re you gonna listen to, your doctor or bleach man?
#MetsSky, let me say in the midst of our misery: We remember when sports radio was the way we could share our thoughts w each other, and it was, and is, an unsatisfying way of doing so. I’m glad I have you all. We don’t always agree, but we are respectful as we take this roller coaster together.
If you had made that bet against any Mets manager in the past 39 seasons, you would have won.
Young players indeed bring a needed. vitality. As much as Alonso and Soto have contributed offensively, and as hard as Alonso has worked to improve his defense, they are both liabilities in the field. Neither (assuming Alonso returns) will likely become a DH, so those are built-in weaknesses.
Mendoza is not to blame. He did not go from being a good manager to being a bad one. There were two giant holes in the #Mets roster this year: starting pitchers and CF. Neither was patched at the trade deadline. Stearns will not be fired either, but I hope he’s learned some lessons.
