-Iowa State looked to be a huge favorite against their in-state rivals considering how they'd demolished Purdue over the weekend, and how they were at home, and how they were ranked 4th nationally, but Iowa battled until the very end. This is a huge rivalry in terms of how bitter it is, and you could feel it yesterday. The Cyclones survived 66-62.

For our latest UNDER THE RADAR Video Podcast - CLICK HERE NEWS AND NOTES: -Nebraska remains unbeaten and certainly looked like a team that was deserving of their top 25 ranking after blowing out Wiscnosin 90-60. I don't think Wisky is a tournament team. At least they haven't shown any signs of it yet. But it's still a big win for Nebraska, and the crowd was electric!

This week's featured conference is the Big Sky who just had a dominant showing in their challenge against the Summit League and Northern Colorado in particular is looking really strong. Montana State, despite a rough start to the season, is also showing signs of being able to compete once Big Sky play starts. We then run through the other 21 UTR conferences and discuss Quinnipiac's good start out of the MAAC, how strong the Big West is shaping up to be, how conference play is underway in the Southland and how competitive that league is looking, and the fantastic starts that Yale, Buffalo, Miami OH, and McNeese are off to.

NEWS AND NOTES: -Michigan continues to blow good teams completely out of the gym. By midway through the first half last they had complete control of Villanova and the rest of the game wasn't even worth watching. The final score was 89-61. -Clemson v BYU in the Jimmy V Classic was just an amazing game! Clemson scored the last 20+ points of the first half and appeared to be on cruise control.

We recap a busy and exciting week of action that saw Iowa State blow out top ranked Purdue on the road. It was the largest margin of victory against a #1 team in the history of the AP Poll, so Iowa State has catapulted themselves up the rankings. Duke also had a big road win at Michigan State and Michigan continues to cruise.

-North Carolina pulled away from Georgetown yesterday for an 81-61 win, SMU got a nice 93-80 OT win against Texas A&M, Saint Mary's picked up their first road win of the year at Davidson, San Francisco did win at Mississippi State but still has a lot of work to do, and Stanford was upset by UNLV at home. -Tonight, Southern visits Texas.

NEWS AND NOTES: -At halftime of the Iowa State v Purdue game I was thinking that Iowa State had just played a fantastic first half. Little did I know what was coming next. This is something that's rarely ever said, but the top ranked team was boat-raced off of their own home court. The final score was 81-58 in, but it felt like an even more dominant win than that for the Cyclones.

NEWS AND NOTES: -Gonzaga jumped out to about a 19-2 lead on Kentucky and at no point was this game close. The Zags beat them down 94-59 in a game that was less competitive than most buy games we see. Kentucky falls to 5-4 and still has no wins other than home buy games on the season. -East Tennessee State pulled away from a pretty good South Alabama team and beat them handily 91-65.

This week, we at Hoops HD are basing the weekly Staff Bracket based on the initial NET rankings that were released by the NCAA earlier this week. NEWS AND NOTES: -Utah State suffered their first loss of the year, and they did not mess around doing it. South Florida sprinted out to a lead early and it was never really close at any point. The 74-61 final score really wasn't indicative of how dominant South Florida was. -Hawaii knocked off a fairly solid UC Davis team in their Big West opener 75-69.

NEWS AND NOTES: For our latest UNDER THE RADAR Video Podcast - CLICK HERE -Arkansas dominated the first half against Louisville and was up by 18 at the break. Louisville came back and got as close as 5 and definitely made it interesting down the stretch, but the Razorbacks held on for an 89-80 win, which is their first real big win of the season.

Tonight's feature conference is the Ivy League, where both Yale and Columbia are off to fantastic starts. Yale in particular has several impressive wins, many of which were away from home, and are one of the Under the Radar teams that may actually have a chance to make a run at the bubble. After that we run through the other 21 UTR conferences and discuss teams like High Point and McNeese suffering surprising losses, Liberty has also struggled out of Conference USA but teams like Western Kentucky have come out strong.

NEWS AND NOTES: -Yesterday was eventful, but the biggest surprise (at least to me)was Oklahoma's 86-68 win at Wake Forest. I had been praising this Wake team for how well they had played against both Michigan and Texas Tech losing one of those games in overtime and another by just 3. I thought for sure they'd beat what appeared to be a so-so Sooners team at home, but they were run out of their own building.

Last night was their fourth overtime game of the year, and their third multiple overtime game. That's gotta be some sort of record for the first month of the season.

Happy NET Day Everybody!!! Chad and the panel are back to recap one of the busiest weeks of the year. We look back at the Players Era Festival and several of the other in-season tournaments. We also preview a very busy week this week with the SEC/ACC Challenge games coming up and some other big action as well. And for all you radio lovers, below is an audio only version of the show...

Before you look at the bracket, I want to make sure you know what you're looking at. This is a CHECKPOINT of CURRENT MERIT. It is NOT an attempt to select or seed teams based on how good I think they actually are, nor is it an attempt to guess what the real committee will do in March. I'm really just asking myself one question: How hard was it for this team to win the games that they've won??

NEWS AND NOTES: -Utah State got a scare from Montana State, but held on to win 84-81 and remain unbeaten on the year. Montana State is just 3-5, but they've played a tough schedule and should make some noise in the Big Sky. -Wy0ming gave Texas Tech an absolute battle, but came up just short 76-72 in a game that wasn't decided until there was less than a minute to go.

NEWS AND NOTES: -UConn kept Illinois at arms length for pretty much the entire game and ran away with a 74-61 win at MSG. The Huskies actually never trailed in the game and at no point did it feel like they were in any danger of losing it. -Dayton and BYU seesawed back and forth in the championship game of the ESPN Events Invitational.

Duke got out to an early lead, then Arkansas came back and built a lead of their own, but Duke came back again and got control down the stretch for the 80-71 win.

We have seen some great in-season tournaments in the past (Battle 4 Atlantis, Maui Invitational, etc.), but the Players Era Festival has simply taken things to another level. Last year’s debut featured 8 teams, but this year there is an 18-team field featuring some of the best teams from the best conferences in the country. It is taking place this week in Las Vegas, and we could not be more excited to be there in person!
