➪ The small flame in his hand the only item holding them at bay.

➪ Instict kicked in, a cloaked arm reaching around and hugging the two of them close to him. They could not see the horrors this place held just yet. And perhaps this is for the better.

"𝙸𝚖 𝚜𝚘𝚛𝚛𝚢."

➪ And with that, the moment they exited. The wind swept through them as if they were nothing more than paper. The candle barely holding it's flicker. As if the shadows themselves came alive to try and jump at him with each flicker.

➪ To a Childs wonderous innocence. It meant more than a lot of things. Protecting that. Among getting them all out of there. He strained for a moment while standing.

“𝙼𝚢 𝚠𝚘𝚛𝚕𝚍 𝚜𝚝𝚒𝚕𝚕 𝚠𝚘𝚛𝚔𝚜 𝚘𝚏𝚏 𝚘𝚏 𝚝𝚘𝚛𝚌𝚑𝚎𝚜 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚏𝚕𝚊𝚖𝚎𝚜 𝚝𝚘 𝚕𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝 𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚠𝚊𝚢. 𝙸 𝚍𝚘𝚗𝚝 𝚔𝚗𝚘𝚠 𝚎𝚗𝚘𝚞𝚐𝚑 𝚊𝚋𝚘𝚞𝚝 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 '𝚏𝚕𝚊𝚜𝚑𝚕𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝𝚜'."

➪ Mei. He took an internal note.

➪ He approached much to her dismay and fear. The child clutching at her skirt once more. His jacket dangled with small ornamental ropes. Tone shifting up a few octaves to come off more friendly.

“𝙼𝚢 𝚗𝚊𝚖𝚎 𝚒𝚜 𝙲𝚊𝚙𝚒𝚝𝚊𝚗𝚘. 𝚈𝚘𝚞 𝚌𝚊𝚗 𝚓𝚞𝚜𝚝 𝚌𝚊𝚕𝚕 𝚖𝚎 𝙲𝚊𝚙𝚒. 𝙸𝚏 𝚝𝚑𝚊𝚝𝚜 𝚎𝚊𝚜𝚒𝚎𝚛.."

Each one the same and seemed to stretch one. The floor seemed to be slick with a strange substance, neither water nor blood. The wall just really seemed rocky but looking at it closer, it looked like graying flesh.

...it felt like they were inside a live giant.
➪ So many unanswered questions. And even more left to the wind.

“𝚃𝚑𝚎𝚢 𝚖𝚊𝚢 𝚏𝚘𝚕𝚕𝚘𝚠 𝚞𝚗𝚝𝚒𝚕 𝚒𝚝𝚜 𝚊 𝚙𝚛𝚘𝚟𝚎𝚗 𝚝𝚑𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚝. 𝚃𝚑𝚎𝚗 𝚠𝚎 𝚌𝚊𝚗 𝚝𝚊𝚔𝚎 𝚌𝚊𝚛𝚎 𝚘𝚏 𝚒𝚝."

➪ Honorable. Exactly what this world loved to walk over.
➪ His gaze fell further to the small child. Barely at the height of her mother’s hips and at thigh level to him…

➪ The poor child. Even if a figment. A madness. How long did they truly survive? Or perhaps this was the last time she’d seen her child alive.

➪ Such act is beyond even attempting to comprehend. This world doing wonders already to draw a divide between them.

➪ His boots thud against the ground. A moment later, he’s gripped onto Hanagata’s shoulder. A squeeze given. A voided stare down.

“𝙸𝚝𝚜 𝚊 𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚝 𝚘𝚏 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚜 𝚠𝚘𝚛𝚕𝚍. 𝚆𝚑𝚊𝚝𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚛 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚍𝚘. 𝙸 𝚍𝚘𝚞𝚋𝚝 𝚒𝚝 𝚠𝚒𝚕𝚕 𝚋𝚎 𝚎𝚗𝚘𝚞𝚐𝚑 𝚝𝚘 𝚙𝚞𝚝 𝚒𝚝 𝚍𝚘𝚠𝚗 𝚎𝚗𝚝𝚒𝚛𝚎𝚕𝚢. 𝙳𝚘𝚗𝚝 𝚕𝚎𝚝 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛𝚜𝚎𝚕𝚏 𝚜𝚒𝚗𝚔 𝚒𝚗𝚝𝚘 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚖𝚊𝚍𝚗𝚎𝚜𝚜 𝚜𝚘 𝚍𝚎𝚎𝚙𝚕𝚢 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚋𝚛𝚒𝚗𝚐-"

➪ He could see the child now? His hand would outstretch for a mere second, only to let it drop at his side once more.

➪ It’s just another part of the madness behind this world. Every step into this world is going to be hostile and even she’s quickly becoming a part of it.

...

"Mei..." She beamed, continuing to pet her daughter's head, "Be a good girl and close your eyes, okay?"

Something evil is brewing.

"But why, mom?" The girl frowned even more, brows furrowed as her face morphed into fear. She let go of her mother's skirt, "Why? You're scaring me."
"𝙸𝚝 𝚌𝚊𝚗 𝚋𝚎 𝚞𝚜𝚎𝚍 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝚝𝚛𝚊𝚍𝚎𝚜 𝚘𝚛 𝚝𝚘 𝚏𝚎𝚗𝚍 𝚘𝚏 𝚋𝚎𝚊𝚜𝚝𝚜 𝚒𝚏 𝚗𝚎𝚎𝚍 𝚋𝚎."

➪ Very like him to think two steps ahead. Approaching and softly removing one of the candles from her hand. He holds onto it.

“𝙻𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚜, 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚠𝚎 𝚌𝚊𝚗 𝚋𝚎 𝚘𝚗 𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚠𝚊𝚢."
“𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝚌𝚊𝚗𝚍𝚕𝚎𝚜. 𝙸𝚕𝚕 𝚗𝚎𝚎𝚍 𝚘𝚗𝚎 𝚗𝚘𝚠 𝚒𝚏 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚠𝚒𝚜𝚑 𝚝𝚘 𝚕𝚎𝚊𝚟𝚎."

➪ Perhaps for a moment he was already under the influence of the bedlam or whatever this entity was. Why had he seen Natlan? Why was it now a cave..?

“𝙸𝚝𝚜 𝚗𝚘𝚝 𝚊 𝚛𝚎𝚚𝚞𝚒𝚛𝚖𝚎𝚗𝚝 𝚋𝚞𝚝 𝚑𝚊𝚟𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚏𝚘𝚘𝚍 𝚘𝚗 𝚑𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚒𝚜 𝚊 𝚐𝚘𝚘𝚍 𝚒𝚍𝚎𝚊."
+
➪ He stared into the cave. Unclear of what could be on the other end of the door, as well as needing to hold onto her? It caused him to sigh quietly to himself.

➪ This world is different. One he will never come to understand. Though, acting as a guide, at least he can do something.

Flashlight, batteries, a few candles and boxes of matches...

She had been preparing for this for the longest time and she was carefully packing them in a white sling bag, embroidered with lavenders, as if they're off to a picnic.

"I do not eat. Do you?" She asked, turning to Capitano with a smile.
“𝚈𝚘𝚞 𝚖𝚞𝚜𝚝𝚟𝚎 𝚋𝚎𝚎𝚗 𝚊 𝚝𝚛𝚞𝚕𝚢 𝚌𝚊𝚙𝚊𝚋𝚕𝚎 𝚠𝚊𝚛𝚛𝚒𝚘𝚛, 𝚋𝚎𝚏𝚘𝚛𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚊𝚏𝚏𝚕𝚒𝚌𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗 𝙸 𝚖𝚎𝚊𝚗."

➪ Though it seemed like it hadn't slowed her by much. She was still highly capable.
➪ He looked back in the distance. They'd come far for a few hours pace. Though it didn't seem like enough. A deep sigh left exchanged with the wind.

“..𝚈𝚘𝚞 𝚌𝚊𝚛𝚛𝚢 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛𝚜𝚎𝚕𝚏 𝚠𝚎𝚕𝚕 𝚎𝚗𝚘𝚞𝚐𝚑 𝚒𝚗 𝚋𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚕𝚎."

➪ A offer to alleviate the stressors of the battle and day.

➪ A singular nod. Runes. Only for that of her people. Although he may be able to collect them.. They will not carry any value. He’ll collect them on her behalf. If they help with their travels then he'll assist.

“𝙲𝚊𝚗 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚌𝚊𝚛𝚛𝚢 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛𝚜𝚎𝚕𝚏 𝚗𝚘𝚠?"

➪ On standby should she need a shoulder once more.
+
ㅤㅤ“Runes can be used to strengthen oneself, if one has a maiden to help them. Alas, they usually only serve the Tarnished.”

ㅤㅤ•° the knight pocketed the runes, adding to her total. Three bags now.

ㅤㅤ“Every living being drop runes. We'll just have to hunt them down.”
“𝙶𝚊𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚜𝚎𝚗𝚜𝚎𝚜. 𝚆𝚎 𝚗𝚎𝚎𝚍 𝚝𝚘 𝚕𝚎𝚊𝚟𝚎."

➪ Part of it was true. The other half a lie he would tell himself to hopefully press forward. One way or another. This room will get them nowhere.
+
➪ The soft sounds of his coat and arm settling back to his side left the two in silence. Though she could not see it. His gaze had turned into a glare. He's at a stand still.

➪ Remaining stagnant is not an option for the captain.

“𝚈𝚘𝚞 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚖𝚎 𝚠𝚒𝚕𝚕 𝚕𝚎𝚊𝚟𝚎. 𝚃𝚑𝚒𝚜 𝚒𝚜 𝚗𝚘𝚝 𝚊 𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚝𝚗𝚎𝚛𝚜𝚑𝚒𝚙."

➪ Whos to say he can't do that once more? Escape this finality that she'd been damned to live through.

“𝚃𝚑𝚒𝚜 '𝚋𝚎𝚍𝚕𝚊𝚖' 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚜𝚙𝚎𝚊𝚔 𝚘𝚏. 𝙸𝚏 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚟𝚎 𝚔𝚗𝚘𝚠𝚗 𝚠𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚊𝚛𝚎..”

➪ She accepts the fact she is here. The place was made to contain her.

➪ This is just a new test to the capable warrior. For the entirety of his existence, he has carried others with him.

“𝙸𝚟𝚎 𝚌𝚊𝚛𝚛𝚒𝚎𝚍 𝚌𝚘𝚞𝚗𝚝𝚕𝚎𝚜𝚜 𝚝𝚘 𝚊 𝚟𝚒𝚌𝚝𝚘𝚛𝚢 𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚢 𝚌𝚘𝚞𝚕𝚍 𝚗𝚘𝚝 𝚜𝚎𝚎. 𝙰 𝚏𝚛𝚎𝚎𝚍𝚘𝚖. 𝙸𝚏 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚜 𝚊𝚗𝚘𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛 𝚝𝚛𝚒𝚊𝚕 𝙸 𝚖𝚞𝚜𝚝 𝚎𝚗𝚍𝚞𝚛𝚎. 𝙸 𝚠𝚒𝚕𝚕."

➪ He’d bested the heavenly principles themselves once before.
+
➪ Deformed the ground. As if this world was attempting to swallow him into this insanity as well. His foot dredged forward. The cold of his body pulling flesh along the bottom of his boot.

“𝙻𝚒𝚟𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚒𝚗 𝚖𝚊𝚍𝚗𝚎𝚜𝚜 𝚒𝚜 𝚊 𝚙𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚏𝚞𝚕 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚗 𝚒𝚏 𝚒𝚝 𝚐𝚒𝚟𝚎𝚜 𝚌𝚘𝚖𝚏𝚘𝚛𝚝𝚜 𝚗𝚘 𝚕𝚘𝚗𝚐 𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚎."

➪ The lights flickered, the once comforting room was now turned into a room made of pure anguish and disgust. This is what he'd originally felt when he entered, the floor pulsing beneath it's feet as if it were alive.

➪ Having remained in the same place for so long. His feet had sunk and-
+
"Only things and beings outside of this room can pull me out. However, doing that..." She wiped her hands clean and brushed down her long, white hair, redoing her braid, "...the Bedlam will not be happy if you take away her favorite toy."

But what is the Bedlam? Where is this? Is this hell?

➪ It only tilted the scales further in his cause.

➪ Mere moments away from using his metal claws to strike at her till she mentioned the shoes.
