OP thanks for asking around, I love the tangent this thread wandered off into!😆 I will probably make my Halloween party
gumbo with traditional roux this time and will experiment later with a smaller batch with a smaller audience. Will post results!

Im planning to make gumbo for Halloween (my kids are having some friends over) so it will be a big pot. I will probably just stick to what I know this time and experiment later with a smaller batch when it’s just family. Thanks for your input!

Another stage like sautéing your trinity? Would you add additional oil/butter? Less time standing at the stove is a bonus but I don’t want to sacrifice quality. Please share your experiences! 🥘

I have a gumbo question. I am a purist and have only made it from scratch with an oil/flour roux. I’m considering toasting the flour in the oven as I’ve heard that a good way to make a roux with less oil. Has anyone else tried this? How did you like it? Do you add any oil/butter at another 1/2

People spending less money at grocery stores bc their snap is suspended is a big hit for the economy. This time of year especially, stores have increased inventory expecting people to start shopping for holiday items. I’m glad they did something and I hope the govt opens back up by Dec.

Is it just me or does this seem incredibly tone deaf to feature this luxury property for sale when millions in this state are genuinely panicking over how they will put food on the table next month with SNAP being suspended. I know the world can’t stop because of the problems of a few but this?!

I would say an example of bucking tradition would be having enchiladas for Thanksgiving dinner as opposed to turkey (which personally I am completely in favor of). What DT is doing is an impeachable offense which he seems to collect like comic books.

My 20 yo son is still into Legos, sometimes I’ll assemble stuff with him and I have to say it’s very relaxing. Like putting together a puzzle but freestyle. No shame in our methods to divert stress!

The way my dad prepared for a camping trip was 💯 autistic. His obsession with lists, the gear,was far beyond hobby/recreational preparation . After my nephew was diagnosed my sister &I picked up on the whole family’s autistic symptoms.

I can’t figure out how to share the video from FB but I saw an alternative to s’mores that makes me even more excited for 🔥season! Put a baby bell cheese on a roasting stick, lightly scorch in the fire, put on crackers with pepper jelly. I can’t do s’mores, too sweet but melty cheese! 😋🧀🍇🥖🍷🔥

My nephew has spent past 2 years studying IT in college and he recently told me most of what he’s learned is now obsolete because of AI. Poor kid. It’s so bleak for kids going through this!

That’s good to hear! She was so funny describing the little lights she was told to focus on during the procedure. “They danced around and were such pretty colors!” I told for the next eye we need to get her some earbuds and play some Enya, really have a good time!

I just made a yummy creamy potato and leek soup for my mom (had cataract surgery yesterday, went well). I think I’ll make a mushroom soup next if I can catch my vendor at the farmers market this Saturday. 🍄
