This is a late Cretaceous echinoid, Hardournia mortonis, from the Peedee Fm. near Holden Beach, NC. The mouth structure is preserved with 5 beak-like teeth called Aristotle's lantern.

To stay there from Monday through Friday was not cheap, but it was worth it. For an old dude who's been in the trees and mountains in three States now (VA/NC/WV) all his life, the beach is wonderful. Like it'd almost be worth it to be a bum.
