Across a river is a weir. A smooth concrete dam only used when it rains hard. It rained hard so there is water flowing over the perfectly straight man made dam. The water is gray and brown. There are three things breaking up the perfectly smooth long exposure flow. Two minor flaws in the dam and a branch stuck at the top. Beautifully unnaturally smooth flow gray perfect when things should not be perfect.

But there is a fuzzy cocoon around that has peeled back to reveal a greenish brown pod leaf thing underneath. The giant ice cliffs of Exoplanet 34254 tower at 15,364 meters. Each local year (1733 days) the ice cliffs freeze and melt sending billions of litres of water down the three canyons to the sea.

In a forest there is a stream. The small stream stumbles over black geological rocks set in the forest floor. This photo is of the stream tumbling over the rocks but it was taken with long exposure so the water is smoothed as it flows. There are hundreds of squiggles of light that are the reflection of the sunlight glinting off the water. It could be a cliff hundreds of meters tall on a different planet with a deluge of water pouring off in the long hot summers.

There is a tree winter empty of leaves. It looks dormant. But look closer, at the end of the tiny branches there are little pods growing. The pods are shaped like pods (yes they are) and are pale green and are covered in fine hair. Fuzzy and soft. This is a detail photo of one pod.

It’s winter and the morning is frosty. This is a close view of what was once a flower with petals. All the petals have fallen off and it is the stem with the fifty or so brown stamen in the middle and the five triangular leaves that once surrounded the petals. There is a layering of light frost on the top of this dying flower. Soft and quiet and beautiful.
