Please do! I'm a sucker for anything New Deal related, so I was already going to read your book after this semester, and if you want to join in for Musical May 2026 too, we can do "Annie"!

Thank you! My original plan was to do more episodes like our pilot on "One, Two, Three", just because I never imagined I'd be able to book guests. It's been so much fun doing it the way we have instead, and it's very rewarding! My goal was to get Rosenstone SOME DAY MAYBE, and we had him by ep 12 😎

And just to get it out there, "Waterboy" is a good Sandler comedy, but it actually also revitalized the economy of my hometown and the filming that they did there basically paid for downtown beautification projects and was kind of a miracle for the community? So I like that one more than I should.

Let me get through this next wave of episodes and then let's talk! I have something like 7 or 8 episodes that I'm recording over the span of 3 weeks, and there is a conference in there somewhere too 😵

I liked that one the least. I'd watch "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" again before "Reign Over Me"

Of all the movies I saw that year, "Spanglish" was one of them.

Just want to put this out there- I built this show with the specific intention of showcasing other people's work to a broader public audience. I want it to be a platform for sharing cool books/projects/papers with the world. I just never expected to land so many great guests! 😄

Especially considering most of his output of the last several years is laundering vacations through Netflix original movies. I remember really liking Funny People and being mixed on Punch Drunk Love. I haven't revisited either.

It was so great getting to hear him just mentally process all the crazy stuff- I need him to go back on like 3 more times.

I think it's his best work BY FAR. Not that his other stuff isn't funny (some of it is!), but he's never struck me as someone who wanted to stretch for a part before. I just assumed after "Funny People" he would never do anything challenging like this, glad I was wrong.

It's really good! It does a great job of adding tension/stakes, instead of just wandering around like in Myst, and it feels like you're playing an episode of the show (like when you did LA Law!)

And in the name of journalistic integrity, we talked about it last week: www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCRC...

4 minutes in and a kid's dog got put down and this girl is marrying a dentist?

"Are You Afraid of the Dark?" and Micro Prose's 1997 "Magic: the Gathering" rogue-like (commonly referred to as "Shandalar"). "AYAotD?" is a Myst-like with video clips shot with the cast of the show, and it is still kinda too scary for me to play on my own. I have copies of both.

How can I recommend games? I have two doozies for you.

Starting with "Blue Denim", THEN "Diagnosis: Murder" (gonna pick some of the wacky ones!)
historyonfilm.bsky.social
So we are still tinkering with the Discord server, but the movie nights are set to resume soon and hopefully have a regular schedule in the not-too-distant future. Tonight's screening will either be "Blue Denim" (1959) or some episodes of "Diagnosis: Murder".

Elbows Up is out! I wrote a chapter on Canada's long-suffering relationship with the US, the work of many years, and how we're feeling about it. (Bad).

I also write about my late father, an American who was stolen from his mother as a child and taken across the border to Canada.

Us! and I know the Humanities Podcasting Network has discussed doing something like this too, so there could be some connection there. I'll bring it up at the next meeting after our conference next week.
