Scott Rodriguez was an activist and leather community leader in Seattle. Rodriguez co-owned The Cuff bar where he raised funds for LGBT-friendly politicians and causes. He was a board member of Hand Off Washington and chair of Seattle Pride Festival.
[Scott Rodriguez gave us a reason to be proud by Matt Nagle and Bruce Amsbary. A pillar was knocked out from under Seattle' GLBT community last week when Cuff co-owner and community leader Scott Rodriguez passed away. Friends close to Scott told the SGN that his health status and cause of death are being withheld in respect to the wishes of his mother. To many in the Seattle GLBT community Scott was someone who operated in the background, barely noticed. But to many others, Scott was a visible and invaluable resource. From Hands Off Washington to the Northwest Gay Radio, the Pride Festival and the leather community, Scott was enthusiastic, inspiring, and tireless. One longtime friend, Tony Glandon (aka Gumby) noted, "No matter what people asked he would help if he could, whether it was donating money or time. Story of O, illustrated version by Guido Crepax graphic novel cover (1978) Story of O Comes to America week 1978 would see Grove Press publish the first American edition of the graphic novel version of Story of O. Illustrated by legendary Italian comic artist Guido Crepax, it was originally released in Europe in 1975. Grove Press had published the first American edition of The Story of O in 1965. I remember seeing ads for subsequent printings of this adaption, now broken up into separate volumes, solicited in Preview movie magazine in the early 1980s. Guido Crepax's version of the tale would be reprinted throughout the decades to follow and continues to be influential and inspirational to this day. This week will feature some of the "O" inspired items that made it to American shores. "Paraphernalia was a boutique and clothing line that was started in 1965 by Puritan, a conservative dress manufacturer that wanted to cash in on the exploding youth market of the mid-1960s.
