thoughts:

I was given an instruction from Ioannis that this mix must be beatless for the show and I throw my arms up and say that admittedly some of these songs have certain clunks which may be interpreted here and there as a beat - but not quite. There is “sound collage”-like sampling in one of the metaxu pieces that to me is like a radio being scanned, and some of the other pieces have that slow undulating murk where you feel a little unsure whether its a heavily low-passed kick drum/synthesised bass or perhaps a processed drone originally found in a field recording.

My own personal instruction when creating this mix was to not dare touch the ‘fx’ section which I’m always prone to do while DJing. Just the EQ and a little bit of filter. Whenever I am DJing ambient stuff (and this applies to a degree for club stuff) I like to see it as me layering these different textures like stacking images printed on transparent sheets and shining a light through them at once - I think this also can be tied in a bit with how I do visual work. I don’t believe that this is necessarily a unique way of looking at things but I did want to put words to it.

These pieces are largely by friends and at the time of writing this, largely unreleased - alongside music I just really have been enjoying that fit the description. I’m super thankful for everyone that sent me stuff
