new review up on shinobi: art of vengeance!

the first in sega's planned revival of several dormant IPs, it's quite a looker, and a lot fun to boot!... but it left me with a feeling of disappointment. is it still worthy of a recommendation?

#RandomGameSaturday? no problem! you're good to go with sega tetris on dreamcast! a fine version of tetris with a real good soundtrack and general vibe

although the stock dreamcast d-pad gets real uncomfortable real quick, so the fightstick is probably a much better control option
i wish the CPU was a bit smarter but max difficulty is still fun anyway
today's thrifting post is one of the "how did they get away with calling it this" moments of all time

all four boss levels are the same guy! and the third one makes you gooma stomp the guy NINTEY (90) TIMES!!!

like. idk ideas are the easiest part of making a game, and it seems that the idea was "make it easy as possible to make lots and lots of levels" with no regard to what the levels were
i only did it as quickly as i did because i found this hidden teleporter on accident in the first (i think?) level with the hoverboard powerup, that let me skip over half the game!

i got so fucking good at doing bloody swamp because it was preferable to doing an extra several dozen levels
come play kid chameleon, we got
- kaizo blocks out the ass
- unmarked platforms that drag you into a pit / ceiling
- autoscrolling death walls that force you to pick a path that kill you if you choose wrong
- 100+ levels! none of which are memorable for good reasons!
beat kid chameleon and OHHHH MY GOD I AM FINALLY FREE FROM THIS BULLSHIT. MULTIPLE DAYS! OF TRYING!

do you like mario maker levels where you pick a door, and if you pick wrong, you die? what if instead of dying, you get railroaded into a difficult level that, upon completion, sends you backwards?

Today's look is at - you guessed it - Sword of Vermilion for the Sega Genesis.

YMMV, but I had to dig a little to figure out why I've played this game off and on for almost 35 years.

remade the "favorite games quilt" since i had it pinned on cohost but hadn't posted it here yet, same rule still applied of each series gets one (1) rep
turned down the first season box set of the flintstones at a thrift last week only to find the entire back half today

yet another "fill in the holes for an entire DVD series" adventure begins...
the wikipedia page for batman (1989) on game boy (1990) has been thoroughly researched to bring you nothing but the fax
beat the original batman (1989) game (1990) for game boy. it's perfectly adequate! especially for a very early game in the platform's life

the horizontal scrolling shooting stages are kinda plain (i'd take them over genesis superman's i suppose), but the regular jumpin n shootin is fun!

When someone only played NES Ghosts n Goblins so you put them onto the Arcade version
every #RandomGameSaturday poster is obligated to own a complete in box copy of american idol for the game boy advance, sorry i don't make the rules
i've run into my fair share of destroyed cassette tapes (as >40 year old tape tends to get) but this teddy pendergrass tape got a special kind of fucked, holy shit
i guess i'm not playing warrior of rome 2 right now
i feel this, although it doesn't stop me (even if it should) since the only way to improve is to keep going

also the spartan x write-up was perfectly fine! i would read more in a similar vein!

getting closer to a default settings 1cc for gauntlet 4. which i guess would be 3cc on the normal arcade? shrug

dickhead thief kept stealing my speed over and over (good sentence)
