Hey friends. Funny that I started writing this on Monday and then do a massive overhaul because a lot of things have been happening behind the scenes.

Basically, according to my therapist and a couple of my autism plush coaches- I have been in “low grade” autistic burnout for potentially a few years, and I need to address it as soon as possible. Because it’s getting to a point especially at work where I have become disengaged, stressed out and I come home barely functioning. It’s resulting in skill regression that’s been happening for a few years now and I’m fucking scared.

I’m looking into getting a sick note to be signed off work to start recovery, and I’m looking to reduce streams into an unpredictable schedule to aid this. The most important thing to do right now is to reduce the amount of demand to the minimum that requires me to mask and adapt around society that is not designed for autistic people.

All and all, though I cannot fully explain what’s going on at work- my days there are numbered. Whether it’s to leave for another job, sign off sick etc, I don’t think I can survive there any longer unless I take drastic action. Too long that I have not been listened to, not been taken seriously, had little to no proven recognition of the efforts I’ve put into my work and my desire for progression has been ignored. It has destroyed my work ethic, my energy to function, my faith in management and my wellbeing.

Because of my mask dropping and my frustration rising I’ve already been snapping at my partners, my parents, my tabletop group and my online friends. And at work I’ve been snapping at my colleagues, slowly snapping at my managers and it will be a matter of time before I snap at a customer and I will definitely be thrown under the bus despite tell tale signs and warnings that something is wrong.

I don’t know how long it will take for me to get back into things. But it definitely isn’t a graduation post, or me throwing the towel in streaming. I need the time to focus on myself and my recovery.

I’m still open to collabs, tabletop etc as I still want to be surrounded by loved ones and friends and it is indeed a special interest that I still engage with. Otherwise, expect me here less often.

It’s best to look up online signs of burnout or even take a couple of online questionnaires to see how high of the risk you are at burnout. Unfortunately we push ourselves to a point where we literally break to realise that we need help and that’s the worst part of autistic burnout 😭
