U5 is of course a direct response and sequel to U4 in every way (story/premise/characters) and ugh that means it is just better to play for all the little things and also combat
there's a day/night cycle, towns will randomly be hostile as fuck, I've no idea what im doing, let us get that bread
It's kinda funny to think about "entry level" elected positions
Extremely important parts of video game history that you don't necessarily have to play to understand because all of the good ideas have been pulled out and refined as the backbone for like every single RPG
One of the best parts about completing an Ultima game is diving into the retrospectives (and the catharsis of the video makers getting frustrated by the exact same things lol)
Sounds good! I've got a few people who will basically leap out of the shadows with great enthusiasm if I ever pop the dos bat signal 🤣
revisiting MH1 with some balancing adjustments and straight up busted SnS sounds fun tbh
I've loaded up Monster Hunter Freedom and Freedom Unite on my Deck. Might go for Dos first tho
The automatic lights were off in my hallway when I emerged for lunch if you want to know how quiet it is today
Basically every Ultima has a big problem with its scale and balance, where everything you have to do is about 10x more grindy than it feels it should be to be "satisfying"? Which yeah we have the insight of 40 years later looking back.
The combat by far, tactical combat and only moving one square at a time and the high miss rate and having to exit the screens in dungeons a tile at a time per person was awwwful.

Virtues were cute, a bit grindy but you did get most of them naturally while exploring the world.
You can't fault anyone for shit they did in the 80s because they were shooting from the hip but you play enough games without good navigation tools you do start to appreciate those little modern conveniences
there's an external mapper for Ultima V with fog of war so I might be playing the game sooner than I thought. They keep making shit bigger in these games and it's harder to keep track of where tf you are and town layouts to a frustrating degree
I might need a little bit of time to cool down but I am still wanting to play V and on!
The concept is extremely wild but it has the same issues I've found with the earlier games, astoundingly tedious and grindy! Moving the full party through the grids was PAIN (i killed off 2 of em just to make it a bit easier) I'm glad I went with the SMS version tho
I just kinda locked the fuck in
Got a ship we're so fucking back
Forgive me for I have sinned
yeah I have everything I need
